i'm glad I picked this guitar up.  No plans to change electronics, but I do have a Gibby Historic Bridge and Tailpiece I might pull out of the closet.

The "Concept Set" writeup isn't really clear as to whether they are made "Just like" the Telegib set, or whether they are just a JB and Jazz made with old style base plates and made to look just like the telegib. I don't know if there would be much sonic difference.

"clinical" might be a good way to put it, though they aren't as "bad" as the Schaller or Carvin / Kiesel pickups, which are almost sterile. That's not always a bad thing, but if you want to rock and get some snarl, they are not the best choice. I love the '59s and the JB pickups, but when I want an old school raunchy rock sound, I grab my H158 with Seth Lovers. I also like the 57 Classic and Classic + set in my SG.

[Pickup recommendations]

Dimarzio 36th Anniversary pickups. I love how they changed the sound of my H535, and they didn't require any additional routing like many "vintage" sized pickups would.

More low thick mids than the '59? Custom 5 from Seymour Duncan. It's a Duncan Custom with an A5 magnet, like a beefier 59.

Gibson does make some nice pickups, but I find their naming conventions to be pretty confusing. Most of their pickups are vintage voiced though, and honestly overpriced for what they are. I would consult a custom maker if you were looking to spend Gibson level money on pickups.

My H150 has two '59s, and I love the sound it has. I have some Hamers with '59 / JB sets, which I also love, just gotta remember to lower the JB a bit to get it how I like it.

Hi everybody! My name is Dave, and I heard about this place over at the Hamer Fanclub (Also a member over there). I am originally a big Carvin addict, but lately have been moving away from being ALL carvin to being SOME carvin. I've got 8 Electric guitars (two up for sale), 1 acoustic guitar, 3 bass guitars, a bunch of carvin amps and bass amps, and some effects stuff.

 

I'm a mediocre player at best, after years of trying sporadically at age 30 i've finally decided to take lessons.

 

Anyway, I got my first heritage guitar a few weeks ago, and she's a real beauty. A 1999 H535 in Almond Burst. The original tuners have been replaced due to corrosion (smells like basement queen), the original schaller roller bridge replaced with a Grover TOM style bridge, and the original Big Schaller tailpiece replaced with Gibson studs and bushings, and a supposed Vintage Gibson Tailpiece of dubious authenticity. The guitar has barely any fretwear, so I believe I'll be the first owner to put some serious miles on her. Currently deciding whether to have the original tailpiece replaced.Not sure about the roller bridge. I have the tailpiece, but I've had to shell out for the roller bridge.
