Hi: Long-time owner here, but never found this site until today. I have a '93 Prospect. Not sure if that's a well-loved model in these parts, but it has a lot of gigs under its belt. Natural finish, Schaller pickups and some crazy coil-split and who-knows-what wiring, which I've never changed, cause I really just use it for straight ahead jazz gigs. Schallers are really hot, too; they'll overdrive a preamp that no other guitars of mine will punch that far.

@JayBecker:  Welcome to the HOC!  Prospects are unique and wonderful guitars.  It's another model that Heritage should bring back into production.  Yours looks to be in good hands.  Play it in good health.

Ok, thank you for the invite.  I am a new member, Jeff, and have a brand new, to me , Heritage H575, Mimi Fox edition, and it is beautiful! Plays like a dream.  I am 60 - something, have been playing music all my life, but not as a pro.  Jazz sax, have played in big bands over the years, jazz piano ( finger issue s on right hand caused me to give it up). Never went to music school, but always wanted to.  My heritage is one day old, to me, and I love it! Other guitars are a 1979 Guild D-35 ( still great), Martin OM-28, G&L tele ( cool), and a Comins GCS1 ( marvelous).  I play through a Genzler amp.   I am now taking jazz guitar lessons from a wonderful teacher - after years of raising kids and not playing.  If anyone is interested in the real deal as a teacher just let me know - he teaches over the internet in this crazy day and age.  I spend hours some nights playing, practicing, going down rabbit holes to explore chord melodies and improvization - it is a relief and release from the stresses of work and life.  I hope that the pics come out well....

Hi and welcome to the HOC!

You may be one of the first Mimi Fox owners who posted here.  (Any others feel free to chime in)

And what an entrance!  That is one beautiful instrument.  I've always wanted to check one of those models out.

Based on Mimi's videos, she seems to be an excellent teacher as well as master jazz guitarist.  Great that you've found an online instructor that you like.

    Play it in good health.

I think Jim did. He and I were talking about them during PSP one year.

    Aha!  Thanks, PK.

Yes Jim came up with the bass design about the same time as the Marvbird.

    Well that settles it.

Jim is still making sawdust at Heritage.  They should bring back a Heritage Bass to their lineup.

Hi all, my name is Bobby and I am actually a drummer but I'm also a lover of guitars. I have two sons that are musicians, one plays bass and theater is a guitar player. My reason for joining the club is because of my father. My dad passed in 2011 and left me all of his music gear. He was a guitar player and a quite accomplished one at that. He was also very instrumental in the Memphis music scene throughout the 60's & 70's. He was in the crowd from Memphis that consisted of Sam Phillips, Jim Dickinson, Don Nix, Larry Nix, Terry Manning, Chips Moman, John Fry, Willie Mitchell and so many others.I had a quite unique childhood to say the least. One of my dad's closet friends though was Johnny Smith. Some of you are probably familiar with Johnny, he played guitar for Bing Crosby but was most noted for his jazz guitar albums. My dad has a Gibson "Johnny Smith Model" from 1968. He also owns one of Johnny's personal Heritage "Johnny Smith" models and a custom made Emrad Johnny Smith amp, that was built personally for Johnny . I was trying to research serial# info on it and I came across this site. The serial # on the Heritage is 199304001. Does this mean it was made in April of 93 and it's the first model?  I have pics of everything I listed but they're too large to attach here so I lowered the quality on one of the pics and it should be below.  Even though I'm a drummer, I'm a huge fan of guitars and I view them as works of art. I can play a little guitar but I am by no means a guitarist. (LOL) Thanks for letting me blab...

Welcome to the HOC, Bobby.  Thanks for sharing your Dad's very interesting history as well as his association with the master, Johnny Smith.  As Skydog52 mentioned above, check for more details on the JS inside label as well as the rear of the headstock.

Here's an old ad mentioning the Emrad Johnny Smith Amp.  Those 100 beasts came with a JBL speaker.  Must have been one loud tone monster.

  6. Wow a bunch of HOC newbies and lurkers have joined the party. We all started where you are. And soon, the tri-level Heritage addiction hits.

First you find yourself trolling for used Heritage guitars here on the HOC, Craig's List, Reverb and Ebay.

The second level is a daily scouring of Gbase and other online Heritage dealers for available new Heritage guitars.

The final (and most incurable) level is calling the factory and dealers to discuss your custom order. This is incurable because it is recurring, year after year. The Heritage addiction is in full force by then.

Just ask a few of us old timers. :icon_silent:

Oh, and welcome to the asylum.

  7. Hi I'm Keith. I just joined because I'm in the process of buying a Lefty H150! I've been playing over twenty years and I've needed a real guitar for a long time.

I wanted a Kalamazoo sibling for my 1917 Gibson L-1 and I'm sure The Heritage will deliver.

My current electric is a parts Paul, assembled from a Lefty SX with Jimmy Page wiring and Seymour Duncan Whole Lotta Humbuckers, gold Grovers, Switchcraft jack and toggle, vintage Sprague Black Beauties...

Some of this stuff will end up in the H-150 for sure.

I also built my own HiWatt clone for my main amp. I've documented some of this elsewhere, so I'll link to it sometime soon.

When I get the Heritage in a few weeks, I'll be back to share it with you guys :D

Welcome to the asylum! Anxious to see your new lefty 150 as well as that Hiwatt clone rig.

  8. Hi there! Just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself, I live in England near London and am the proud owner of my 150 in almond burst. I bought it in 2004 from Ed Roman (yes, I know!) and to be honest, despite all the flak he got, I had a great experience, they shipped it over (yes I bought it without playing it - I could not find a single bad review on the net at the time so I took a punt - I was not disappointed!) and it's been one of the best guitars I've ever played.

It's heavy though, 10lbs and 9oz! But that's fine with me, I love it.

Ed Roman gave me a choice of any Seymour Duncans so I opted for a JB and a '59 but since then I've swapped them out for DiMarzio 36th Anniversary PAFs in cream to go with the binding (looks very Ace Frehley now!)

Here's something I knocked up last weekend, me making up a solo to Paradise City, I think the guitar with DiMarzios sounds great.

Anyhow, just checking in to say hello, hope you're all doing well.

    Cheers

Hey PsychoAngus, you burned up that 150 on that GnR tune!! Great stuff.

    Welcome to the HOC.

  9. A BIG WELCOME to all of the new HOC members from all around the world!!

Heritage is a very special guitar company, making incredible instruments. The company is going through an interesting time at the moment, but they're still pumping out great guitars for us. (Check out the Winter NAMM thread).

Let's see more of your amazing guitars and tell us all about them. Each one is unique...kinda like each of us!

    Cheers! :icon_salut:

  10. Hi,

Let me introduce myself. I have been a guitar player for over 50 years. (I started _very_ young because both my parents played.) Around 25 years ago, I started shopping at "The Classic Axe," in Manassas, Virginia. (It has since moved to Gainesville, Virginia.) CA was the first Heritage dealer I ever ran across. I immediately fell for Golden Eagles, Super Eagles, and Johnny Smith The Rose guitars. I decided that I would get one, at some point. (I was a committed Gibson archtop guy.)

Last year, after 30 years of playing a vintage Gibson, I sold it for my 2001 Super Eagle. The last year has been a great year of playing archtop guitar. The guitar is superbly made. It is wonderfully playable. It is, of course, beautiful. Does anyone apply a shaded finish better than Heritage? I doubt it. I bought my guitar from the late Patrick2 (Patrick D'Amato). He was a great guy. I know he generated some controversy here with his strongly held opinions, but I assure you that he was a super and caring guy. The guitar used to be owned by Marty Grass, too.

I play jazz, country, blues, pop, and whatever people ask for. I grew up as a fan of Merle Travis and the West Coast hot shots. However, I also played a lot of Chet. Of course, I got my head turned around by all of the great jazz players, too. These days, when I am not performing blues and jazz (that doesn't get too far away from the melody), I enjoy playing chord melody around the house.

The forum is great. I actually joined before the closure/reopening, but didn't post much--mostly read.

Here is a picture of my Super Eagle when it was owned, I believe, by Marty Grass:

Welcome to the HOC and congratulations on that well travelled, gorgeous Super Eagle.

I've admired (and lusted after) that one ever since Patrick and Marty owned it.

    Play it in good health!!

  11. Hi! I'm Scott and I have had 2 different 575's. Sold the first to make a down payment on a hip replacement. Current one is in my avatar, and I absolutely love it. Hoping to get a 535 soon. Will keep you posted. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

ScottM~ With priorities such as this, you will fit in perfectly with us other HOC'ers. Welcome aboard. :icon_salut:

  12. Saying hi. Just picked up a 1989 (I think) Heritage H555, blond flame maple, 3 piece maple neck and gold hardware. Love the look, and am learning the sound and when to use it. Right now, she's in the shop for a fret level. Some other relevant guitars in the herd include a Guild X500 Stuart Benedetto in a dark wine color which I use to accompany my wife who sings, a Schaefer Swingmaster for unamplified settings and a Mike Stern clone that is my versatile, travel (replaceable) guitar.

One of my teachers, Calvin Keys, in Oakland, CA, has a Heritage which turned me on to the brand.

The serial is sort of smudged, but is stamped in gold and I think starts with an F. Were H555s made in that year and what was the spec?

    cheers, m

Calvin Keys is your teacher? You are a lucky man. He's a great player. Been slingin' a Golden Eagle for years.

I spotted Calvin at Blue Note Music in Berkeley several years ago noodling around on a jazz box. Man, if I could noodle half as good as him!

    Welcome to the HOC.

  13. Hi I'm Guy from England and I've been a Heritage owner for about an hour now!

I've got a H575 serial E18801 in beautiful condition and set up to perfection. Only one problem though. It's not working so after feeling like a kid at Christmas all day waiting for it to arrive (I couldn't sleep last night) I've now got to part with it while it goes back to the shop to be sorted. Oh well... Still it's a beautiful guitar and plays like a dream.

    Welcome to the HOC, Guy.

Please clarify what is not working. We may be able to help. It could be something simple like a loose connection or disconnected wire on the jack. If you have an end pin input jack, they can be a bit temperamental. So tell us more.
