I have tried several brands and several different materials for strings on my 535's and 335's and seem to come back to either Pure Nickel Strings (DR Pure Blues) or good old D'Addario EXL-110's in Nickel Steel. However, having said that I now have the new set of D'Addario (black package) NYXL strings on my 335 and they are pretty exciting. Less squeek than regular round wounds, they feel smoother and faster for some reason. Almost like a coated string, though they are not coated at all. So far, so good with the new NYXL. Wish they weren't so costly. About 3X of the regular EXL-110's. Over the years I have tried and liked the Pure Blues and Snake Oil Brand pure nickel strings. And, the D'Addario EXL-110's and the Dean Markley Signature Nickel Steel Strings, though they feel a bit stiffer. Season to your own taste, of course. Take care. tbonesullivan Posted June 24, 2014 Share Posted June 24, 2014 I use either D'Addario .10s or Carvin .10s, which are I believe just GHS boomers. But cheaper. Carvin bass strings are made by la bella, and are pretty much the same as the nickel plated steel, but cheaper. I use them on all of my carvin basses. 'Hand wound' Round core stings, incredible tone, but I began to struggle getting hold of them, and when I did I got an odd crappy set in the batch. So I decided to try our DR strings and I've loved them, I use pure blues 11's like a few of the other guys here have recommended. Also got on well with the Tite-fit ones too on humbucker guitars. They seem to have a good sound and last a while..... IIRC the 10-46's are Regular Slinky, the 9-42's are the Super Slinky's. On all my electrics I use Ernie Ball - Super Slinky 9-42's. A little more expensive compared to E.B., D'Addario and other more common brands, but they stay in tune and intonate far far better than anything I've tried in my 40+ years of playing.
