gpuma Posted October 26, 2014 Author Share Posted October 26, 2014 I just want to add that while the people at MESA have always been very helpful, the guy I talked to at their Hollywood store was a total jerk. He did not even wanted to know what the problem was. It is clear to me that they are having huge problems with these units otherwise they would show some level of concern for an unhappy customer. After the awful experience with this employee at the Mesa store, I spoke with the plant and with another store employee and they both have been super helpful. I followed their advices and I have to say that after those suggestions the cabclonedid not sound bad at all. I think they need to do a better job documenting the use of it because the signal reaches unity gain with extremely low settings on the recording interface and on the PA. Also the fx send level on the mark V has an effect on the overall sound so it is something to check. I'll try it at rehearsal on Thursday! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I think we will need to work on the PA as well. But I was able to make it work with the recording interface by changing both amp setting and setting to zero the gain on the interface preamp. In a mix setting I thought my sound was mostly indiscernible from a regular cab with the main difference being the lack of feedback loop. I believe this is a useful and convenient tool that is a lot simpler and a lot less expensive than other solution which might (or might not) sound a little better. At the end of the day, I don't know if anyone would use it in the studio, maybe not. But I can see really a ton of people using this in a live setting. I think the problem of the mixed reviews arises from the fact that the signal out of the Cabclone is gainy and it is not documented to be that way. So people approaches it with "normal" settings and gets a clipped sound. They should do a better job in the manual, I think. This is not surprising because, even though I am a Boogie fan as much as anyone, all the manuals I came across from them were mediocre at best (with a lot of mumbo-jumbo on the black magic a similar BSs and not a lot of technical details). bolero Posted November 2, 2014 Share Posted November 2, 2014 I have an original H&K Tubeman pedal that has a line-out for a PA/mixer, with a cab simulator built in ( H&K Red Box I believe ) it's a really useful unit, although I primarily use it as a distortion box. or recording bass lines DI can probably find them for $100 used ps the H&K Red Box will take a line signal off your amp, but it still needs a speaker hooked up Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

indravayu Posted November 14, 2014 Share Posted November 14, 2014 I bought a CabClone a couple weeks ago and I like it - it's definitely better than my Palmer PDI-09 "Junction". It's not perfect - I mainly use it for recording at home and I still have to add EQ and reverb to get it sounding like a miced speaker - and I have to be very careful with the gain staging on it, my amp, and my recording rig's preamp and compressor - but it's it a very useful tool to have at my disposal.
