Its been awhile since I've spoke with them and, honestly, I've missed them a little bit. 1988/1989 (board date '88 and chassis date '89) Mesa/Boogie .50 Caliber Plus. Red python tolex, brand new handles, corners, casters, and paperwork from M/B denoting recent service and clean bill of health. Head is loaded with 2 brand new JJ 6L6s and all new JJ 12AX7s with V1 being a gold pin. Cab is loaded with Eminence Red Coat 12s. It can be configured as full closed, half and half, or full open back. It's wired 8 ohm mono. Sorry about the crappy iPad pictures, but I was in a hurry to share!! So far the tone is absolutely monstrous, especially with the EQ in the mix. However, I'm used to a four channel Roadster, so getting used to only 2 channels may prove to be something to overcome. The cabinet is a different story. It WILL become part of my live rig. Compared to the angled Marshall JCM900 Lead-1960 I've been using, the only word that really comes to mind is "focused". This is the tightest sounding cab that I've ever played through. It's a smaller 4x12 compared to the Marshall, but it sounds a lot bigger! It's heavier than the Marshall as well, despite it's size. Yes, this Boogie 4x12 will stay in my rig. It's looking as if the head will stay as well. As far as the Roadster is concerned, it is a stellar amplifier. It does everything and does it well. It will be staying. However, the 50 Cal. just has that something extra. I don't know if it's because of the EQ circuit, different gain stages, or who knows. Right now I'm finding that the 50 Cal is like grandpas old lockblade. Very familiar, comfortable, and gets the job done in a no nonsense fashion. Whereas the Roadster is a swiss army knife.
