rwinking Posted November 25, 2015 Share Posted November 25, 2015 Apparently I was the high bidder on a "Floor Model" H-137. I was looking for one and there were a couple around here for $1100- !700. I got this TV Yellow one for $900 from a shop in Dallas that had 100% customer ratings. I am pretty darned excited about it. i am surprised that there were no other real bidders on this, which makes me wonder.....However it came from a shop in Dallas and when I was an Austin guitarist, I had never seen a heritage, so I would wonder how popular they are. I notice a lot of you guys are out of Michigan, Wisconsin, illinois, etc. which is close to the plant. Six months ago I bought my first two and now I am up to four. I can about guarantee you will love it, if you love the clarity of single coils paired with the power/balls of humbuckers. They aren't beauty queens, which is one reason many may dismiss them (that, or a distaste for the yellow.) They dismiss them to their own detriment. Fun, light, lively guitars. Great price, too! rwinking Posted November 25, 2015 Author Share Posted November 25, 2015 So I take it the stock P-90s are worthwhile? I am taking out the Schallers on both my 140 and 170. They aren't so great. What kind of P-90s usually come with the 137? I have an original Epiphone Casino with the old Gibson style headstock and it has these unbelievable P-90s. davesultra Posted November 25, 2015 Share Posted November 25, 2015 Unless someone has swapped the originals out, the stock P-90s' used on the 137s' are wound by Lollar pickups (standard wind). I have an '08 H-137 and love it (mines yellow as well). Sounds like a sweet deal BTW. Right now is a great time to be on the buying end of used Heritage guitars. Â Just make sure that the one you're getting is set up to your liking and you're ready to go.... congrats. Â I would have had difficulty saying no to that guitar at that price. Needless to say, i am pretty darned excited about it. the day my daughter was born was the coolest day in my life. new guitar day is always a close second. rwinking Posted December 7, 2015 Author Share Posted December 7, 2015 So I got the H-137 and have had the weekend to play with it. It is a beautiful guitar. Played acoustically it has a nice pop to it compared to my 140 or 170 I guess that is due to the body being a solid piece of mahogany. Taking that natural "pop" and then having the P-90s really gives it a cool tone. As I said in an earlier post, I have an old Kalamazoo Casino w/original P-90s and that of course is a solid body, but there are still similarities in the sound. The only issue is., of course, the noise in the pups. One interesting thing I noticed is that on my Epi, you have noise on the neck pup and the bridge and also on the combination of bridge/neck. On the H137, when I combine the two, they cancel out each other and no hum. Is that standard? It is a cool feature.
