tsp17 Posted February 6, 2016 Share Posted February 6, 2016 Hey all- I just got a portable Digital-Analog Convertor and Headphone Amp combination for computer to headphone listening. Really improves sound quality from computer. Am I late to this party? Anybody else using this cool little device? I am going to get a coax adapter and plug it straight into my home stereo - i bet it will be much better quality than streaming over the network or even pugging in direct without the higher quality DAC....yes? I take my signal thru a USB outboard convertor, then to my digital mixer to the studio monitors. Not exactly the same as you are doing. What I want to do is plug my Apple TV unit into the DAC via an optical out cable and then plug the Modi 2 uber into my stereo. Then I can stream music from laptop to Apple TV to DAC to stereo. There is a slight bit of over-sampling from the Apple TV but most reports are that it sounds great. Still haven't pulled trigger on purchase but its on the to do list. I am a little confused by this thread. Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference of plugging the apple TV optical out into a dac? My rudimentary understanding is that the USB to DAC bypasses the computer sound card; and when i go USB-DAC-Stereo the sound is better than what i get from streaming. The Apple TV would allow a user to stream from their laptop through airplay to Apple TV into a DAC. That way I don't have to plug my laptop into the DAC. I haven't done this but have read about it online. suppose to work right, that's my understanding too.
