New Mesa Triple Crown Series

looks awesome...but here's what get's me....what vacuum in the Mesa line up does this address?

(see what I did there? vacuum? tube amp? get it? he he he)

But seriously. Isn't this redundant?

I don't think so. It replaces the Transatlantic series that was put out of production recently. It is their nod to the glory of EL34 based amps, still with a Mesa twist.

I heard the demo only with crappy speakers so far so I can't say if it is exciting or not. An old TA-30 or a Royal Atlantic was high on my wish list for a long time.

Well, also a Double Rectifier, was but then the Puerto Rico Move came along...

My Trans Atlantic has EL84s. Don't see the TA connection in the TC-50 at all. More in common with the Lone Star, which can use either EL34s or 6L6s. Or maybe they just can't help themselves releasing another multi-amp amp.

speculating here...

perhaps after a couple / 5 years goes by, and they see even a modest opportunity to improve on a circuit with a method or a material, rather than, say, a "Lone Star II", Randall has taken to introducing a NEW item. Would explain the vast iterations of similar amps over the years.

I wish I bought an ElectraDyne.

That was a cool amp.

Why didnt they release a smaller lower watt version of that.

I wouldve thrown money at that like it was a (remembers where he is) thing to throw money at.

Unless I didnt like it and then I would say stuff like "why did they mess with a good thing?"

True, but you have a TA15 if I am not mistaken. The Royal Atlantic which was a higher wattage amp, had EL34s. I wonder if they will come out with a lower wattage version of the TC with EL84.

Actually, I bet they will (as they did for both the rectifier and the mark series)

I can't keep up with Mesa's amp releases. They're like the Fender/Gibson of amps. Same (awesome) thing repackaged, re-released. Like the New and Improved Tide! for the 30th time. :dontknow:

And yep, my TA is a 15. But I do see quite a bit of similarity between this new amp and my Lone Star (Classic - argh!). Wonder if the TC-50 Combo weighs in the same neighborhood as the LS? As in too friggin' much ;)

I feel the same way about mesa. Also PRS. I sold lots of each but after a while I lost enthusiasm for every new thing they did. It was always a revolutionary thing they did, just ask them, theyll tell you so.

Upgrading the Express series was good though, and the MkV was also a great bringing together of a few things. The TA15 also a good thing.

I agree with the above. I think especially in the Mark series they have overdone it.

After the Mark V I frankly see very little need for 2 low wattage versions (Mk 5:25 and 5:35) and even the JP2C, as good as it seems, is a little of a stretch over the big MkV.

Also the TA series seemed very good and it is a pity it had such a short life.

But in the end it is understandable, however, that they try to sell more of their products in a way or another. At least they do not put out bad stuff like Gibson or Fender do sometimes. Maybe redundant, yes but IMHO they were able to keep a great level of build quality, sound and features.

56 lbs. Been playing Mesa amps since 85 but I can really appreciate something a little lighter. How did I get so old?

Hey Greg I had the KingSnake at PSP8, it was too heavy (65lbs) for me. Had a hip replaced in March and brought a Victoria Ivy League (28lbs) to PSP9 this year. The Victoria is an easier grab & go amp for a 39 year old guitar player. Maybe for my next 39th Birthday I'll get something even lighter.

I have to say I really love my grab and go Mesa Express 5:25. Not only can my spinal discs tolerate it, I get to crank it to 4-5, instead of almost 2 on my old DC5.

I'm familiar with that dril on my DC-2, only 22 watts and at 3, I'm well up in the mix even with an 8 pc band.

When an amp manufacturer with the history and wherewithal of Mesa releases a model titled KingSnake, it's got to be good!

Man, you're 39?!!! Next year it will be time to cash in for good and get that one room condo in clay county. Sorry about your luck. I'll PM you my bequeath info. Somebody's got to rock the venom out of that beast!

Edit:

Pressure: should you extend your stay beyond the upper limit of 40, remember - man invented dollies for a reason. Whatever it takes to get there!
