I really liked the sound of the Jazzmaster pickups, too. Never owned one of those. Now I'm wondering how much longer that will be the case....

I never put much thought into them until I was working on a 67? mightve been 65 or around there, Ive forgotten, Jazzzmaster.

I became somewhat fixated on them after that.

I have a new appreciation for the '58 PAF HB. They really sound balanced, and I think I'm migrating from a perference for single coils to HB pups. Can anyone recommend an HB PAF that they think will sound like these? And, do you think installing them in an H 150 LW would make a huge difference as the LW is chambered. And does anyone know if A13 refers to the magnet?

I predict a few ThroBak recommendations.

Also Seth's.

Go to youtube and watch the Doug & Pat Show videos. They have several pickup shootout episodes that feature humbuckers. Let your own ears decide.

Yes I remember those, just had forgotten their names - thanks.

The thing to remember is that there was variation in the original PAFs - different magnets, windings - which is why different options are offered by pickup makers. For example, Bare Knuckle have Stormy Monday (alnico 2 magnets) designed to replicate 1957/8 PAFs, Mule (alnico 4 magnets) designed to replicate 1959 PAFs, and Riff Raff (alnico 5 magnets) designed to replicate 1960 PAFs.

Have fun with the search!
