hauling a 4x12 around is a PITA

Time to lift more weights!

Seriously though, I am amazed places even let you bring a 4x12 in the door. They drive the sound guys crazy, and blow out everyone's ears.

The downside being...?

PITA - Really!? I like many of the benefits of a 4x12... Especially the quick rolling off the stages etc. (easy in and outs, fast setups and stage clearing)

well, anything with rollers makes that job easy enough

these are great with a combo

it's more the getting in/out of the car & house ( stairs ) that is a pain in the ass

My Hughes and Kettner Tube 20 has a redbox DI built into the back. stage volume is fine, and that suckers sounds absolutely huge in the audience.no 4x12 in this universe can compete with a full sound system.

ah, good idea...I have an H&K redbox around here somewhere!

  • 2 weeks later...

I just found a used Mesa 1x12 Recto cabined which was very affordable. I had never seen one with a straight front before but bought it on sight because (it was cheap and...) I knew I could place it nicely under my Mesa Mark Five:25. It comes with a single Mesa Vintage 30 speaker and it is rated for 60 watts with a single 8 ohm input. That is now the smallest and lightest gigable guitar amplification solution that I own. Sounds great and very easy to move.

.... but those 4 x 12s just sound so GLORIOUS when they are cranking!!! And you must remember the saying, No pain, No gain.

We love our gain, don't we!

hahaha....

well the problem is, I am playing the JTM45 + 4x12 clean and only using pedals for dirt, in the places we will be playing

kind of defeats the purpose

who the hell can crank a 30-50w amp up anywhere, these days??

The Vibro Pig may prevail, in the end

Stop by the ranch friend!

I have a 2x12 that is very interesting, it is a vintage Boogie cab:

open back C-90 on top, and closed back EV12L below. The best of both worlds.

And it look mean with my Mark V on top, doesn't it? :headbang:

It took me over a year to find one for sale:
