Dial in that Sweet Spot

Recommended Posts

I don't remember where I read it (probably a D^mble thread on tgp) I've used a similar 'listen for the BLOW' method.

with the guitar plugged in and turned down, you turn up the knobs from zero until you hear distinct change in the hiss - the hiss becomes a 'blow'

I target a solid grind with the ability to clean up with the guitar's volume knob and I don't stray too far from the above method to get there

However, I also see the tone circuit as 'subtractive' and will start with the TMB knobs on 10 bringing them down until I get the thickness and cut that I'm looking for

And then break those rules . . .

there's a certain single string tone from the neck pickup that gives me goosebumps

so, plenty of times I'll journey to that special place and use as few compromising tweaks as possible to get an acceptable bridge tone

heh, sound like such a poser since my group hasn't played for a few months
