CJTopes
I'm finally get to play some tunes in open G with the band. I'm using my Prospect for this. You may know that keef took the 6th string off when in open G because it's fairly useless. If I was to do that would it mess up the neck of the guitar? (truss adjustments assumed) I'm more worried about getting a twist in the neck or any damage to glue joints. Any thoughts on this?
golferwave
When I tune to open G I leave it on, doesn't bother anything. Open G is great, 2 fingers and away you go.
CJTopes
I think my problem is that I almost always play in open E with the root on the 6th string. I keep hitting that bottom string. I was thinking that removing the string might help with that.
AP515
I've only done it a few times. I left it on. It was a lot of fun.
CJTopes
Love open tunings. I finally get a chance to do it in a band setting.
rockabilly69
Tune the low e string 3 notes up to G so you have a G drone working for you, I've been playing like this for years no harm to the guitar no trussrod adjust needed it balances the tension from dropping the A and high E strings. go to 24:31 in this video and I'm playing in this G tuning... rockabilly69
Sorry 'bout the middy/tin sound on the video guys, but all they had at that little venue was a Fishman stick SA220, so no low end, but I hope you got the idea!

CJTopes
Tried it last night. I'm lovin it! I like the unison on the bottom two G's. I just have to raise the action up on the Prospect to help with the fret noise with the slide.
