Just scored a super rare 1988 H170

I stumbled across this on Ebay last night.

Its a 88 H170....but there's nothing "standard" about this one.   It's totally a custom one off!

Trans Blue monster top, Gold hardware, Rosewood board with blocks, "Diving Duck" headstock, HSS configuration.   I'm not sure if the EMGs are factory...I highly doubt it?

These are pics from the Ebay auction....they're HORRIBLE!!!   I'll post more when it arrives.

I saw that one - wasn't excited by the pick-ups but it looks like a really nice guitar!  Congrats!

Thanks man!   It depends on weather they are active or passive EMGs....active EMGs can sound quite good

Really looks like a cross between an H-140 and a Stat. The switches can be tricky to get used to but after a while, they are cool.

Great score!

Well...it finally arrived and it didn't disappoint!!!!

I was wrong on the model though.....its a H207DD.....I thought it was an H170CM

There was a H204DD and a H207DD.   The 204 was a single cut, like the H140CM.   The 207DD was a spinoff of the H170CM with a pointy headstock.   They were a very limited run, the 204 and the 207....Heritage's attempt to compete with Charvel and Jackson in the pointy headstock market.

The DD designation was called the "Diving Duck".   I cant remember who at Heritage came up with this insane designation, I remember Ren Wall telling me about it on time I was down at the factory, but I forget the fellas name who came up with the idea.

The 204 and the 207's standard build included....

Bound Honduran mahogany body with a curly maple cap
Honduran mahogany neck
Unbound rosewood fretboard with dots
DD headstock with mini Grovers
Chrome Schaller top loader tailpiece and Schaller roller bridge
Uncovered black bobbin Schaller pickups...HSS configuration
4 mini toggles (on/off for each pickup and a coil tap for the bridge humbucker) master volume/master tone
Plastic pickguard

This particular 207DD was obviously a custom order one off.  It has a lot of upgrades from the standard model....

Pearl Blocks
Gold hardware
Upgraded premium top
Active EMGs
Matching flame maple pickguard
Custom color

This 207 has a 60s slim neck, typical for 80s Heritages.   The frets are in awesome condition!  This Heritage is a 1988, so its showing some light checking in the nitro finish.  For a 30 year old guitar, its in great condition....no cracks, chips or repairs.

The pickups are factory....everything inside looks original.   Active EMGs...you either love em or hate em.   I like them.   All my other guitars have vintage output buckers or p90s....its a nice change!

It sets up really nice!!!   I replaced the Schaller hardware with Nashville style bridge and tail.   Good action.  It has GREAT upper register access for soloing!!!!!

Here are some pics after I got done cleaning her up and doing a setup on it....
