Did Heritage buy Harmony guitars?

Recommended Posts

So let me start by saying I have no evidence to support this but I do live in Kalamazoo and there is a rumor that Heritage has bought Harmony Guitars. I have heard that its to make more of  a budget guitar kind of like Epiphone to Gibson. I am not trying to start any drama or spread rumors I am just curious if this could be true and if anybody has heard this or knows anything.

Yes and no.

BandLab is part owner of Heritage. They bought the Harmony name and plan to build a new line at 225 Parsons. As I understand it, it will be a totally different production line. The prototypes that I've seen are nothing like Heritage models. They tend to be offsets with bolt on necks. Since they are US made, they won't be as inexpensive as the Epiphone line.

EDIT: BandLab also bought the Teisco name. https://teisco.com/

So is this something most people already know about in the Heritage Community? Any idea of when production is starting on those?

It's known that BandLab owns at least parts of all 3 companies. I don't know what the production timelines are. I'm guessing that it has something to do with the continuing renovations at 225 Parsons. Keep watching the web sites.

I played a couple of the Heritage(?) Harmonys at the Summer NAMM Heritage booth last year. At the time the the street price was going to around $1800 if I remember correctly. They were nice.

Sort of sideways on the topic, but I really like the Mono gig bags.

If you go to the Harmony website and the Heritage website, you can see that they are very similar.    The Harmony site is more just basic info.   It doesn't seem that the guitars are in general release although some examples have been seen at NAMM.   There don't seem to be any dealers.

Many of the old names are making a "comeback".   Airline guitars are made by Eastwood,  Silvertones are now coming out of Samick,  Supro is owned by Absara (who also owns Pigtronix),  Key is owned by Fritz Bros.   FWIW,  in many cases, the guitars resemble the originals but can differ drastically in construction.   Most are thoroughly moderized compared to the budget instruments of the 50s and 60s.

Me, too, Lou!  The only gig bag I'll use for a set neck guitar.  Lots of load-ins and outs with those!  Nary an issue!

I'm rather surprised we aren't seen Heritages come in Mono gig bags.

My newest Millie SuperLight (January 15th 2019) came in a MONO gig bag.

Was that a request or by default?

Default. The Millie is no longer a production model. I'm just guessing but Heritage probably felt they didn't need to make and stock hard cases for it.

I would like to play one of these Harmonys they look nice. And I love Mono gig bags. I have one of their bass bags that fits my Firebird perfectly, and a regular size one for taking most of my other electrics out when I need a bag instead of a case.

Wow does this mean that my '65 Harmony Rocket is a pre Heritage Harmony?

I went down to the shop Friday and Ren gave me the tour.

CNC machine is in place turning out quite a few Harmony bodies. I put my hands on a couple Harmony guitars. Nice fit and finish.

The shop looks good and is expanding with a lot of activity everywhere.
