Chicago Blues Box...Roadhouse Head

A good friend of mine has a Halsted combo and its a BEAST!!! I know the Chicago Blues Box line are great amps....I saw this Roadhouse head on Reverb this week and it spiked my interest.

I negotiated a deal with the seller and it was on its way. The amp also came with a custom made road case that fits it like a glove!

It arrived yesterday and I was anxious to give it a ride! It is loaded with 2 Sovteck KT66 power tubes and Tung Sol pre-amp tubes.

The front panel has a bright switch, volume, treble, mids, bass, trem speed, trem intensity, reverb.

Its insanely loud....tons of headroom! It has a very tight bottom end. Crisp highs, very warm. The Reverb is very 3D and drippy. The tone stack is very responsive....you can really dial in a variety of sounds. It is equipped with a FX loop, but I ran my pedalboard right in the front and it sounds incredible. My OCD v3 sounds killer through this Blues Box!

The harmonic boost switch on the back really changes the mood of this amp! It acts as a mids and low end boost....gives the amp more balls...a really nice feature.

The serial number has me scratching my head a little. It appears to be a prototype or possibly a NAMM build?

I tried it through my Dr. Z 2x12 cab....it sounded awesome! I tried it through my 1x12 cab loaded with a vintage 30...it also sounded great.

Definitely a great score! Humbuckers, p90s, singles....all sound killer through this amp!

Well played, Brent!  At the second or third PSP John (Kuz) had a Chicago Blues Box take on a Super Reverb.  It was completely righteous amp!!!  I had a chance to buy it, later, and didn't.  One of my great amp regrets!

That's a nice Traynor Bassmate you have there Sir Brently.... Using it like a Fender Bassman?

You know, it’s actually great for guitar and bass!!!

i originally bought it to play bass through.
