We have all been down this road. It is a slippery slope. Guitar porn leads to bank account damage. You have been warned.

I understand that and I appreicate the warning. I'm at the point where I sell gear to (mostly) finance the acquisition of new gear.  I sold a Martin 00-18V to pay for the 530, and I'd sell my Jazzmaster to pay for its replacement.

But in all seriousness, I'm considering replacing the Jazzmaster with a 535, for three attributes:  humbuckers, semi-hollow, scale length.

For having three electric guitars, I'm wondering if it would make more sense for me to sell the Jazzmaster and have the Tele (single coil, solid body), the 530 (P90s, hollow body), and hmm let's see what would make a perfect trio?

I know what that voice in your head is telling you.  I hear it all of the time.  It's Satan telling you that what you have isn't good enough.  There is no perfect trio.

Look at this another way.  What if Jimi Hendrix only had a Strat?  Would he have been a nobody?  How about Kenny Burrell?  What if he only had a Super 400 and no acoustics?  Pat Metheny, Mimi Fox, Roy Clark, Hank Garland, Wes Montgomery, Steve Vai, BB King, Eddie Van Halen?

It's not a crime to like to change guitars for the fun of it.  It generally won't advance you as a player.

Does anyone have a suggestion for where I could purchase a pickguard for the 530?

Would this work? https://reverb.com/item/4488284-custom-late-60-s-es-330-style-guitar-pickguard-fits-long-neck-verison-3ply-black

So as I expected, this inexpensive pickguard isn't quite elegant enough for this guitar, but it will make a fine template for Pickguardian.

After I receive it back from Pickguardian, I would be happy to mail this pickguard to any other 530 owner who would like to use it as a template.

Would def be a humbucker equipped instrument for me ? YMMV..

I've made a few using 1/8" lexan, either left clear or painted from the backside  any way you want.

Multiple coats using different colours can be applied and then distressed or sanded to reveal the different layers...with a black or white  sealer coat on last ,they look great!

One of my very first attempts.....

Having fun trying out differnent strings. Just tried a set of D'Addario Pure Nickel 12-52.  Too heavy for my playing.

Shameless plug: I am selling another set of these strings on Reverb right now for $6 + $4 shipping, if anyone from this board wants them I will give to you for only $4 shipping; just message me with your HOC name.  (Rob's Gear Bazaar on Reverb.)

So I spoke with my therapist on Saturday.

Sold my Jazzmaster on Sunday.

Spoke with my wife today.

And will be posting another NGD post in several days, after my new BFFJoel from CME sends me the 535 we just make a sweet deal on.

Latest strings are D'Addario Pure Nickel 11s.  These have a plain 3rd, but I'm also going to try this set with a wound 3rd.  With other sets I've liked the sound better with a wound 3rd.

I anticipate I'll keep 10s on my incoming 535, so I think it would be a good complement to have 11s with a wound 3rd on the 530.  It's fun to try out different combinations.

The guitar was too subdued for my taste with the TI Jazz Swings, so this afternoon I swapped them out for my favorite roundwounds (Gabriel Tenorio 11s), and now the guitar sounds great to my ears.   (I first used an unwound 3rd, but then put on a wound 3rd which I'm keeping on.)

I feel a little guilty that I had CME put on such an expensive set of strings (the TIs), but I did want to hear how it sounded with those.

Happy Halloween!

Send the TI strings to me, no sense in wasting them!

Tried a set of 10s today (D'Addario EXLs) and I like the slinky feeling better than the 11s.  I'll try D'Addario EPN 10s next.  The guitar will need to adjusted since it was set up for 11s, but I'll need to have that done anyway when I have the Bigsby put on.

I never have done this so educate me. When you do all this string swapping do you just toss the out the ones you remove, or are they salvageable??

Thanks, Marty.  I see your location is Kalamazoo.  Are you with Heritage?

He is a nice guy, very knowledgeable, especially with jazz guitars,  and has been on this forum since the beginning! And he sold me a sweet cherry sunburst 535 around 10 years ago, which I still have and love!

Another Heritage of course! You are now infected with the HG virus!

I toss them.  They are not that expensive in the context of dialing in a new guitar (with the exception of the TI Jazz Swings, which are pricey, but I got those for no additional charge from CME with the guitar).   And to change the third string on the 11s from unwound to wound, I just bought a single string, not a whole new set.

He works for a Fortune 30, remember? I think he can fund a few more Heritages (unless the wife says NO)

seems so

In all seriousness, the f****g pandemic made me realize that life is too short to keep a guitar that you don't love. So I';ve sold two guitars that were both beautiful and fine guitars but that I didn't love, and bought two guitars that I'm optimistic I will love

Hey I don't own the company! :)

But I am fortunate to have a good paying job at a company that is still doing well despite the pandemic.  I recognize many people are struggling.

I am too lazy to engage in that kind of fun. In fact I rarely even change strings unless they look rusty.........LOL

That is kind of what I was eluding to. You seem very blessed so why not spend it, can't take it with you. I need to start playing my 13 Heritages more often..........
