seems so

In all seriousness, the f****g pandemic made me realize that life is too short to keep a guitar that you don't love. So I';ve sold two guitars that were both beautiful and fine guitars but that I didn't love, and bought two guitars that I'm optimistic I will love

Sounds like you are making sound decisions!

Nah, just send them to me.  They'll be cared for and played regularly.

actually, nevermind --- too much Internet this evening ;)

I was just browsing around looking for amber knobs for my 535 (I don't think the black knobs look good with the natural finish), and down the rabbit hole I went.

(Several weeks ago I ordered a Nocaster wiring harness for my Tele, but obviously changing the wiring on a thinline is much more work than on a Tele.)

Question for the experts -- The RS Guitarworks 335 50's wiring harness will work fine in a 530 (as well as 535), correct? https://rs-guitarworks.myshopify.com/products/pre-wired-vintage-335-upgrade-kit?_pos=3&_sid=a93b0e071&_ss=r

In addition to RS there's: 920dcustom.com

So my 22-year-old son is home for Thanksgiving (after he and his housemate all tested negative).

He plays a Tele, and after playing my new 530 today he said "It's too big!"  I replied, "What do you mean it's has a classic body shape!"  He retorted "Maybe classic if you're the Beatles."  I quickly said, "Hey, the Beatles actually did play a guitar very similar to this called a Casino".  But then I realized his reference to the Beatles was meant as a derogatory Dad-is-so-old wisecrack.

sigh

kids today

Thanks, Marty.  I see your location is Kalamazoo.  Are you with Heritage?

Well, I'm not against Heritage!

I grew up in Kalamazoo, moved about in my nomad years and resettled in Kalamazoo about 15 years ago.

Gibbons was simply part of the culture and one of the major employers.  Everyone knew at least someone who worked at Gibbons and most knew many.  Kalamazoo was and is a good place to live.  We'd have visitors all the time who came to Gibbons beginning in the early 1900s.  I couldn't possibly name half of them but they included Chet Atkins, Johnny Smith, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Ted Nugent, Wes Montgomery, the Everly Brothers, and many, many more.  In the last few years, when there were concerts, almost all of the artists would comment on Kalamazoo being the heart of guitar building:  Derek Trucks, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Jeff Daniels, Tommy Emanuel, etc.

There are reasons why the Heritage owners chose to remain in Kalamazoo when Gibbons left.  To state the obvious, they didn't include lovely factory facilities, advanced technology, great union wages or certain economic success.  These were stubborn men with excellent skills and a commitment to home.  They had midwestern craftmanship and grit.

There are more than a few of us on the forum who visited 225 Parsons a lot.  I don't do that much anymore, not that I have anything against Heritage.  It's a very different experience now- more professional and less folksy.  I can't expect to buttonhole someone with 40 years of stories and luthiery skills for a chat.  The current Heritage people are friendly and helpful but more formal.
