I know alot of members use high end custom shop pickups I was wondering if anyone has ever tried WCR Guitar pickups. I've seen some good review of their products but I'm not sure if I want to plop down $300+ for a set. Just looking for some advice. Thanks

Having just purchased a replacement set for my H150, I did do quite a bit of research. It really depends what you are looking for in a humbucker. I was looking for a traditional PAF type pickup and was able to find a used set under $300 used. WCR are great pickups but not traditional. If you are trying to stay within a budget, try Brian Gunsher ( BG pickups) great handwound pickups for $140. Hope this helps...

I agree with jazzbone. Just depends what you're looking for. I've spent more than I care to admit on pup's. I always end up back at Seymour Duncan. The WCR's are tempting to me, but I just don't have the $ to try them out right now. I have a pair of BG Smoke stacks that are excellent IMO for a fraction of the cost of other high end brands. I also like and have a BBQ bucker set from Rio Grande that are great. Still a little pricey though. I'm not really a vintage sound guy though. I like METAL/HARD ROCK. Hope that helps a little. I'm sure other's will chime in.

Yeah, what sound are you looking for and what are you replacing?

I thought that Brent had a set of WCR's in a guitar once, but I may be mistaken...

Sheptones are nice for a vintage sound and relatively inexpensive , they have some cool samples on their site... Sheptone humbuckers

And many here swear by Tom Short buckers.. those are well priced also .. Tom Short TomBucker

And of course, S Duncan makes a wide variety ...

I just like the sound on these Sheptone samples... heres a Blue Sky pu , made to emulate D Betts pickups in his goldtop. Sheptone BLUE SKY

"recorded with a '59 reissue Tom Murphy Les Paul through an Orange Tiny Terror head with matching 1x12 CAB with Vintage 30 speaker, close mic'd, guitar/cable/amp only no effects.

I have Sheptone tribute PUs in my H150, with A4 magnets in both. I used to have Seth Lovers in there, which sounded great, but I like the sheps with A4s a bit better, if I had another H150 I'd likely put Seths in it for a different flavor.

Here's some clips of my H150 with the Sheptones... just some wankery through 3 different amps, but maybe will help.

If you want to break the bank for the BEST PAF EVER (IMHO) then you got to go Throbaks!!!!!

Tom Shorts are cool to and less expensive.

Good stuff guys thanks. I'm thinking about replacing the burstbuckers in my 07 Les Paul. They sound like alot of stock pickups too much bass on neck and too much highs on bridge really haven't been impressed with them at all. I was looking at the American Steele pu's from WCR I know Buckcherry uses them and their last 2 albums have a real hard rock sound to them. I'm not looking for high gain pu's like a Duncan invader. Something mellow that can also bite when I need it to. The amp I'm using is a early '60s Kay K504. It's got the funky looking grill that's black with white going all over it, kinda of reminds me of the GrooveTube Soul-O-Watt amps. I mean as far as I know these still have the original tubes or period correct tubes because they are all GE. I think they stopped producing tubes back in the early or mid 70's. Anyways thanks for the advice all, I'm just trying to make my not good enough guitar OK.
