  1. Hi! I'm Scott and I have had 2 different 575's. Sold the first to make a down payment on a hip replacement. Current one is in my avatar, and I absolutely love it. Hoping to get a 535 soon. Will keep you posted. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

ScottM~ With priorities such as this, you will fit in perfectly with us other HOC'ers. Welcome aboard. :icon_salut:

  2. Saying hi. Just picked up a 1989 (I think) Heritage H555, blond flame maple, 3 piece maple neck and gold hardware. Love the look, and am learning the sound and when to use it. Right now, she's in the shop for a fret level. Some other relevant guitars in the herd include a Guild X500 Stuart Benedetto in a dark wine color which I use to accompany my wife who sings, a Schaefer Swingmaster for unamplified settings and a Mike Stern clone that is my versatile, travel (replaceable) guitar.

One of my teachers, Calvin Keys, in Oakland, CA, has a Heritage which turned me on to the brand.

The serial is sort of smudged, but is stamped in gold and I think starts with an F. Were H555s made in that year and what was the spec?

    cheers, m

Calvin Keys is your teacher? You are a lucky man. He's a great player. Been slingin' a Golden Eagle for years.

I spotted Calvin at Blue Note Music in Berkeley several years ago noodling around on a jazz box. Man, if I could noodle half as good as him!

    Welcome to the HOC.

  3. Hi I'm Guy from England and I've been a Heritage owner for about an hour now!

I've got a H575 serial E18801 in beautiful condition and set up to perfection. Only one problem though. It's not working so after feeling like a kid at Christmas all day waiting for it to arrive (I couldn't sleep last night) I've now got to part with it while it goes back to the shop to be sorted. Oh well... Still it's a beautiful guitar and plays like a dream.

    Welcome to the HOC, Guy.

Please clarify what is not working. We may be able to help. It could be something simple like a loose connection or disconnected wire on the jack. If you have an end pin input jack, they can be a bit temperamental. So tell us more.

  4. Hi gang. I'm a new member and just signed up today. I'm actually a former Heritage guitar owner. I had a Johnny Smith, a Golden Eagle and an H575. I sold the guitars years ago and have regretted that decision ever since. At some point in the future, I'll be attempting to get myself a Golden Eagle and rectify the huge mistake I made.

Welcome Hotfordcoupe! Check the Heritage Classifieds. There's a gorgeous Super Eagle for sale that might get your attention.

  5. Hi everybody,

I purchased my first (only) Heritage a couple of months ago - an '88 Golden Eagle. It is an outstanding instrument! I'd like to find a nice 535 or 555, so if you have one that you're thinking of parting with feel free to drop me a line.

I'd like to update my profile photo with shot of my archtop, but I keep getting errors when I try (from my Mac, if that makes any difference). It finds the image, spins for a few seconds, and comes back with some kind of "no can do" error. The image was reduced in quality/size so that it is now about 600 KB.

Anyway, this is a great site with lots of knowledgable and supportive folks, so good on ya! Wish I was closer to MI - the annual event at Kalamazoo sounds like a gas.

While I'm rambling on, if there are other GE owners out there with the single floating pickup model, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Mine came with the pickguard assembly removed, and I'm having trouble getting it to line up properly. I could take it to a shop, but it seems like it should be a simple little task to do!

Finally, have any of you achtop owners out there added a tone pot to your stock rig? Once I hear how mine sounds plugged in (great, I'm sure), I may add one but would appreciate hearing experiences from others before I do.

There ya have it. Cheers from Colorado!

    Scott

Welcome aboard, Scott, Dale and Shmokiebaby!! (Great name, by the way!)

Scott, my '93 GE also has a floating p'up set up. I was too scared to work on the electronics since it was my first full size archtop. The mounting underneath your pickguard might need adjustment. If so, and you are careful, you might be able to adjust it. However, I always recommend folks take these fine instruments to a pro to have work done.

  6. Hi! I'm Monica.

A friend of mine told me about this forum. I've been a guitarist for many, many years. That doesn't mean that I'm good, but I enjoy playing and collecting. My current collection includes Gibsons, Carvins, a Ric and various other guitars. I don't know a whole lot about Heritage other than I'd like one. That's why I'm here. I may have to sell a few in order to fund the Heritage. But that's okay. I have more than my share. Now I want to refine my collection a bit. Chances are that I'll lurk and read some threads. I probably won't post much. I'm very active on HCEG using the same moniker. I'll be watching the For Sale thread to learn about the various models and prices. Right now I have my eye on a used Millineum. I'm partial to semi hollows and the small size of the Millineum appeals to me.

Welcome to the HOC, Monica Punkitty.

We need more ladies around here to keep us hairy legged dudes in check. Ha ha!

Feel free to join in any of the threads that interest you. There are others looking for their first Heritage and enjoy the discussions.

Millies are very special gitfiddles. If you get one you will love it.

  7. HI there,

My name is Jay new member and Heritage owner, so new the shipping box is still in the garage! My 2008 H550 Custom (ASB) with 59' Seymour Duncans just arrived the other day. Just loving the guitar. It has a unique tone somewhere between a Gibson Tal Farlow and an ES175. Workmanship is superb. I've been in the market for a jazz box for sometime but wanted a little more versatility that a "pure" archtop. I considered Eastman, Sadowsky and Gibson but was impressed with the reputation of Heritage guitars. I feel I got an amazing deal, this is a whole lotta guitar for the money. From what I gather the 550 is not considered one of the more desirable Heritage guitars, maybe you veteran members can tell me why?

Hello Jay, and welcome to the HOC! Congratulations on scoring your 550. I don't know who told you that 550's were less desirable or whatever, but they were wrong. In my view those are very special guitars in the Heritage line-up. As you correctly compared it to Tal Farlow and ES175 Gibsons, all three are finely made laminate archtops. If this model had been made back in the 50's or 60's, I bet we would have heard it on many jazz recordings.

The 550 is great for live performances due to its ability to sound huge, fat, warm, articulate with minimal feadback issues. Yes, you'll be able to get her to howl if you aren't careful with EQ and the position of your guitar and amp, but that tone is worth it. Maybe some folks view it as inferior to other fine solid wook archtops suc as the Golden Eagle, L5, etc., but that's all relative and dependant on one's use of the guitar. Also, because the 550 is laminate bodied, the cost is far less than its solid wood bretheren. The good news is that the quality is extremely high since it comes from Heritage. To me it is one of those incredible bang for buck guitars that is often undervalued for whatever reason.

Contrary to H550's being any less desirable, I like to view them as the Golden Eagle that you can actually gig with.

Play yours in good health and feel free to show n tell us more about your 'new' H550.

  8. Hi gitfiddler,

My brother, who stills plays, and I must say extremely well a 535 he bought new back in 1989 thinks it may have something to do with the pickups. He pointed out the 4 screws in the covers. Any thoughts on that.

    Don

Don, back in '89 the only p'ups with a 4 screw adjustment set up were Schallers. They later could have been HRW's (modified by H.Rendal Wall aka HRW Schallers).

I don't think that made it a Custom Shop guitar. It could have been a 'choice wood' upgrade, special color, specified neck carve, etc.

Keep in mind that Heritage IS a custom shop. So anything goes.

The main thing is to play and enjoy that gitfiddle until your face cramps up from smiling so much!

  9. I just signed up to this group. I currently own 3 Heritage guitars, a 1986 140, 2003 535 and a 2008 575. I have a question about the 575 that maybe someone could shed a little light on. The sticker in the body says 'Heritage Custom Shop'. (The sticker in the 535 just says 'Heritage Guitars') Is there any significance to that?

    Thanks,

    Don

    Don, Welcome to the asylum.

Heritage Custom Shop is on some of the labels of guitars that have upgrades or dealer options.

And others seem to have it cuz that's what was on the lable table that day! :icon_scratch:

There is not a set answer to your query due to the factory being so willing to customize almost any guitar they make.

If someone else has more info on this mystery, please feel free to chime in.

  10. Hello and Welcome to all of the new folks who have chimed in and joined the Heritage asylum, otherwise known as the HOC.

You obviously have great taste in guitars, as well as a good value for your hard earned money. :icon_thumright:

Enjoy yourselves posting your thoughts, wishes, concerns, hobbies, and other guitar stuff. We are a friendly group and even welcome threads about other brands (as long as it is in the Family Section or For Sale) of guitars.

    Thanks for posting and remember...:this_thread_is_useless_without_

  11. Hey Tim . . . . I may have the perfect solution to your Millennium dilemma; you say you really want one, but you can't afford one yet and you can't spell it. I am here to help you! First off, you may call it a Milly to avoid the spelling complications. If Milly presents similar challenges to you can just refer to it as you kick ass geetar. Regarding the affordability . . . I will gladly buy you one and trade you for that '93 Golden Eagle that I've been lust with for almost a year now. You may thank me later for this generous offer.

HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HAAAAAAAAAA!

    Nope! :icon_biggrin:

(But my friend's '93 Blonde Golden Eagle is still available!):icon_thumleft:

  12. Hello, I'm 32 and have been playing since 2007 after about a solid three or four years of going back and forth about it, wondering if I'd stick with it. Since I started playing, I haven't looked back and I am excited to say that I ordered a Heritage H157 back in August and the anticipation is almost too much to take some days. This will be my first U.S. made guitar and I am really looking forward to bringing it home and plugging her in! I currently own a G&L Legacy Tribute and Asat, both very solid guitars; but I always loved the classic LP design and sound, so after discovering Heritage at my local dealer in Edwardsville, IL (Mojo's, they are simply the best) I knew I had to have one. I've been lurking on this site for a few months and through all of the stories and pictures I've seen here, I have full confidence that I made the right choice.

Hey jturbo77~ Welcome to the club. You'll learn the secret handshake later.

We understand that giddy impatient feeling in the pit of your stomach. That new 157 of yours will be here sooner than you think. Then we'll demand pictures, and lots of em!! :D

I also have a custom order that will make its way to Mojo's (hopefully) in the near future. Bob is a great guy to work with.

    Looking forward to your posts.

  13. Howdy fellas, I decided to join now that I got my first Heritage, a 1992 H550 just less than 24 hours ago. A great guitar in great condition. Beautiful almond sunburst.

I have been playing blues and jazzy blues for a while in the SE US. I am a member of a working 4-piece jump blues band and have been using semi-hollow and hollowbody guitar exclusively except for slide. I bought the H550 as my last hollow body guitar, a step up from my Epi Joe Pass that will get single coil PUPs now.

I look forward to learning more about Heritage here and make some new musician friends in the cyber space.

    PS: Here is my Heritage:

WOW! Your 550 is beautiful. As a relatively new 550 owner myself, I can't agree more that it is the perfect git for jump blues and many other genres. It's an instrument that always makes me smile.

WELCOME TO ALL OF THE NEWBIES! HOPE YOU HANG OUT AND POST OFTEN. :D
