My new 1986 H 170 arrived today!!!  It is pretty sweet, for a 22 yr old guitar, it is in pretty good condition.....it certainly has been played!

As a whole it plays great, sounds great....there is a lot of fret wear, the seller didnt disclose that fact, but it still plays well.  It is a close cousin to my 1986 H 140 :)

Very nice pair, Brent!  You need to get a clearer picture of that board, because it looks like it has some nice grain to it.  It looks like the 170 body is smaller than the 140/150, is that true?  What is the thickness on that?  140ish?  150ish?  Damn, man, I'm excited and I'm not even the one that got the freaking guitar!  :-[

i haven't actually had a strap on it yet, so i'm not sure on the balance yet...i wasn't able to get to it until later tonight.  the neck is nice and slim.  i only had it plugged into my small amp just for testing purposes.  i will try the 100 watter on it tomorrow.  at first feel it was lighter than i expected.  i will have more info tomorrow.  thanks for the compliments...I'm liking it pretty well ;D

oh, and no cracked headstock!!!! ;D :o

That is stunning.Congratulations Brent.I love the flame on it. Very classy. Are you switching the hardware out or leaving it stock? I think the Schaller buckers really suit these guitars and youll fall in love with them.Very under rated guitars. As for the balance. I havent found an issue with that. The strap button on mine is mounted behind the heel and is very good. Love the compact nature of the 170. I find it very comfortable being a fella of smaller stature. We need full detailed reports and possibly some clips.Karma up :)

thanks dude!!  i agree on the hardware..he had a fine tuner tailpiece on, i i immediately tookit off and went w/ the stock stuff.  i think the stock pups are just fine, but the tru test will be when i fire up the 'ol 100 W preavey today and let 'er rip!!!  The strap button on the back is no biggie (SG) is the same way...i just have to take a strap and flip a straplock button around to accomodate it...but i'm not sure if it will make it neck heavy?  i dont remember my SG being that way?  more to come later

Nice weapon Brentrocks.... I noticed the horns on your H170 are sharper than the ones on mine. I wonder why they changed it?

that is a good question...it seems that they took the sharpness away as the yrs went by???

This 170 sounds great!  It very aggressive and punchy on the neck pup.  The neck position is really warm and bluesy.  I was worried about the fret wear, but it plays great...i was thinking that bending and such may be difficult, but that is not the case at all.  it is definitely a keeper.
