A Question for STAT Owners

The post of the STAT currently for sale on ebay reminded me of this question.

Does your maple capped STAT have a drop top? or elbow scarf or whatever it's called?

I can't tell from the photos on ebay if that one has it or not.

I'm asking because I was talking to Marv about doing a belly cut and drop top on a new 150. He said no problem to the belly cut, but said it was too much of a PIA doing the binding on a drop top, and he didn't want to do it. So I asked if they found he found that out when they did the STATS.

He said "We never did that on the STATs"

Sheepishly, I replied "Well mine has it"

"No it doesn't".

"I'm pretty sure it does...."

"I designed that guitar, I know what it has"

"Ok, maybe I'm thinking of something else..."

This exchange happened when I was picking up my 357 at the factory, so I didn't have the STAT with me, but it does have a drop top. It is not a DLX.

So, I guess my follow up question is, have I found out that my STAT is a one off custom or were there so few STATs made so long ago that the recollection is a little foggy?

Yes. That's it! The forearm cut.

My STAT's top is flat, not carved. I think that is one on the differences between a DLX and and a regular ol' STAT.

Now if you continue that forearm cut all the way around the guitar you get an arched top! Add a little dish and its perfect.post-463-0-77320000-1372215929_thumb.jpg
