I have a book by Dan Erlewine called "The guitarist's guide to Electric guitar set up and repair" or something along those lines..it is excellent.. has helped me alot..You can order it from Stew Mac.. I also subscribe to the "tool tips" that Stew Mac sends out, many of which are written by Dan or other top guitar techs. I belong to the "keep it clean, but not spotless" group.
