First Mods to the H-150P

I bought the H-150P knowing it might have some problems.

The Duncan Black Back pups just do not sound that good to me plus the mounting bases were hosed up.

Today I swapped in two Duncan Pearly Gates pups, both of which were the bridge winding.

At the same time I replaced the Schaller bridge and tailpiece with a Faber ABR-1 (with Titanium saddles - on sale fairly cheap at CV Guitars) and a Gotoh

aluminum stop tailpiece.

I am not sure which one made the greatest difference butt the combo was quite an improvement.

Much more sparkle and note definition.

I'll try to post pics....

It's not a stunning flame top obviously but it is a pretty good guitar I think.

BTW after looking at the pickups I removed, the bridge pickup was wired as a single coil with the green wire snipped off at the cable and the White/Red combo grounded to the pot.

No this is no the wax coated guitar that is a 140 I think.

This is the Ebay H-150P that had large galvanized screws attaching the pickups.

It is less "Pink" in person.

I am having David Plummer of Zhangbucker wind me a set of pickups to my order but delivery is several weeks out.

I had the pearly gates from an E-bay low ball bid.

I like the grovers but the Tulip Klusons look pretty good.

I need to swap out the "Schaller" pickup rings with regular Les Paul types.

I might also replace the Heritage pick guard with a les paul type without the hump in it.

Quite a nice one... and I bet it really growls with the Pearly Gates in it.

These can really sing nicely...

I do like the Pearly Gates pups.

They are not a "Super Distortion" type of pickup but they rock pretty well.

I am still working on getting the setup where I want it.

Surprisingly, it seems to stay in tune better now than with the Schaller hardware, which is not what I would have guessed.

I like the reverse wrap. It seems to help sustain without making the action stiff.
