Is the Boss Katana the newest Fender Mustang III?
DetroitBlues replied to DetroitBlues's topic in Amplification and Effects
A week and a half ago, the guitar player that joined us on stage used a Fender Twin Tonemaster. He sounded really good. Definitely had a dialed in rig, audiences or even other guitar players wouldn't have known what he was using unless you look. On a side note, I've seen his band play, he drags out a tube driven Fender Twin and a Tonemaster Fender Twin. He has one blasting the audience and the other blasting the band..... -

Installed a set of vintage Gibson pickups in my 2017 Heritage H535 Custom this morning. In the bridge…a 1981 Gibson Shaw PAF 7.30. In the neck…an early 70s Gibson T-top PAF 7.15. I gotta say, I like the tone of these pickups in this guitar A LOT better than the last guitar I had them in. (IYV hollow body). I have tried a few different styles of pickups in this H535. It originally came with Duncan Seth’s, which sounded great. Then I had a set of 70s DiMarzios in it and those were great too…but definitely a different flavor. And now the ol’ Gibsons. So far, I’d have to say, the gibsons are more balanced and versatile of the 3 sets!

Is the Boss Katana the newest Fender Mustang III?

I have the Katana Go headphone amp. I bought it when it first hit the market and then they pulled them off the market and nobody knew if they were gonna come back but now they’re back with about a 15% price increased over the original. I have one of the original models. It’s a lot of fun when you’re in a hotel room you put on headphones that you can get all these cool guitar sounds that come from the Katana amplifier itself. -

Do Fender Tonemaster amps fall into the category? I know you were impressed. Mine (Deluxe) continues to wow me. I recently downloaded the latest Firmware update to it (2025) which apparently removed the “virtual bright cap” from channel 2 among other things like adding more IR’s. -
Job complete in 30 minutes or less. The most annoying part was the Reverb tank kept wanting to draw itself to the huge speaker magnet on my deluxe.

I have the same amp, a 2006 reissue, cover and all. Yes it’s heavy. I also have a Super reissue and a Deluxe reissue, as well as a Supersonic 60. I must be nuts!!!
