Your Ideal (custom) Heritage

Ok... So you walk in to the factory, money no object and say... Build me this one please...

I'd just like to know your Ideal Heritage.

Body type, shape. Materials for body, neck fretboard etc. Pickups, hardware, Finish, colour, fancy inlays or plain etc. Weight.

Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not trying to say there's anything wrong with what's already available just a bit of fun to see, given the choice of whatever you might like in a guitar, what it would be. 8)

Mix and match your pickups, add a whammy bar, what about some vine inlays down the neck or a tulip wood body and bublinga cap... Shape of a flying V but semi acoustic with pink flameburst... on the back.  Whatever... :P

Go mad it's only a bit of fun ;D

Not exactly erm... understated ;D Not that I've a problem with that, I own a Minarik Goddess and they don't come much flashier than that.

I see you've stuck with the basic LP shape, it's a favourite of mine too but fret access is limited.

I seriously like the maple binding. Good call on that one ;D

I've got a couple of Hrw's on a 150 though it's half way accross the Atlantic on a Jumbo Jet at the moment so I can't pass comment.

Thanks for your input though and hopefully it will inspire others too 8)

Off the top of my head the Heritage lineup is missing a P-90 equipped semi with a solid centre block.

I would like a customized H-575 (similar to Jay Wolfes H-525 model)

  • [li]Lollar P-90s[/li]
    [li]thinner body - 2" thick[/li]
    [li]solid centre block[/li]
    [li]block mother of pearl inlays[/li]

[li]decorative trapeze tailpiece with custom inlay[/li]
    [li]bound f-holes[/li]
    [li]no pickguard[/li]
    [li]left handed of course[/li]

Mahogany Firebird body, mahogany neck through with ebony board (no markers), minibuckers, locking machines.  If they won't do that, I'd really just go for a black and tan H157 with nickel hardware and HRWs.

That's gonna be one heavy mutha of a guitar :P

I like the nickel hardware though and that's another vote for HRW's (which is comforting). 8)

What woods, finish etc.

How about a p90, bucker combination?

If I got everthing on my list I would go for the standard 575 woods - maple top back and sides.

Dual P-90s are what I'm gassing for at the moment, if I was to be extremely creative though I would like 4 P-90's  :o,

  • [li]two in the bridge[/li]
    [li]one in the centre[/li]
    [li]one at the neck[/li]
    [li]standard 3 way selector[/li]
[li]toggle switches for series, parallel and series settings[/li]

4 P90's... That's downright greedy >:D

Kinda reminds me of those 60's guitars with all the knobs and buttons ;D

Makes me wonder though.. If we say a P90 is just a single coil pickup and a coil tapped bucker operates as a single coil... Then why do tapped buckers sound so weedy ???

I've tried the series and parallel thing but it's still not the same as a genuine single coil. Anyone know why ???

BASSWOOD... Frankly I'm amazed that someone on this site would choose Basswood. :o :o :o

Not that I've a problem with basswood, far from it, as apparently it's "tone neutral" and so doesn't colour the sound like mahogany.

Thing is, most people seem to associate basswood with cheapie Korean/Chinese guitars and I always feel there's some kind of snobbery against it.

10 out of 10 for sticking your neck on the line with this one Brent. Be interesting to see what anyone else thinks ;)

No surprises with the 170 shape though ;D

A'ight, a'ight....  Here 'tis!  Now, unnerstand Mr. Debriis, that this piece is actually on order, ten months, and counting!  Super Eagle; Almondburst finish; 1 3/4" fretboard, at the nut; Lollar P-90's; standard hardware, multiple binding, spruce top, maple back and sides, five-piece neck, three inches deep, eighteen wide at the lower bout....  She gonna be a Big Woman!  ...after I recover financially... to go with the guitar, I'll order a fine sharkskin suit, big, wide silk art deco tie to wear when I play out, and get myself a white '62 Lincoln Continental, with suicide doors, to carry that guitar around in the backseat!  Mighty fine...mighty fine....                 8)

The reason i would go that route is for weight loss, for high gain distortion, you dint sacrifice that much in the tone dept.  i have owned quite a few basswood American made solid body axes and i think they sounded pretty good....push come to shove, with the 170, thinner body, mahogany may be the way to go?

i want to change my order....

Mahogany body

H-150 with the light mahogany they use in the G word custom shop guitars.

Would like a long tenon design neck piece.

The word "Heritage" in MOP  on the headstock.

Lollar Imperials-w aged chrome covers

RS ekectronic upgrade w paper and oil caps

Really liked that orange finish I saw in the E-Bay section last week. with matching wooden pickguard

Chrome hardware

Spretzel Locking tuners

Nirvana nut system

Trapezoid MOP inlays with real pearl dot inlays in the center

And the finishing touch

A platinum truss rod cover with the names of the four principle master builders at Heritage etched on top and outlined in black.

I'm kinda with you on the long tenon but would prefer neck through myself.

Interesting choice on the pickups. Golferwave has a 150 on eBay, finishing soon, and I'm keeping a close eye on that one ;)

I bought his last one with HRW's, so who knows. 8)
