SouthpawGuy
Did you take this picture with a mirror? I thought your guitars would be left-handed. Check out the post two above mine ....

MrPoobah
Been drooling over this thread for a couple of days now. Great pictures folks. Wouldn't mind hearing about what kind of pups you guys have in these things.
Kuz
Been drooling over this thread for a couple of days now. Great pictures folks. Wouldn't mind hearing about what kind of pups you guys have in these things. For me, it is only Throbaks in my three Heritage 150s and my 555. For me, Throbaks have the truest PAF tone. MrPoobah
Anybody have any experience with SD pickups, how do they compare to Throbaks in terms of getting that 50's PAF sound?
bolero
well SD's are decent enough, but I find the potted ones sound bland in comparison to what guys like Wolfetone, Lollar, Throbak are doing IMO you need an unpotted pup to capture that hollow sound with the unique high end...SD makes Seth Lover's which are unpotted, but I still prefer the 3 above mind you everyone has a different ideal sound in their head, and this reflects mine. I'm sure there's lots of different opinions

Cajun
Lots of great pickups out there - would recommend Jerry Sentell pickups (a PAF set like I just installed in my Les Paul Special). They are very reasonably priced and sound as good as any other PAFs I have had (I have owned over 75 guitars and a wide variety of humbuckers). I have also owned at least 10 Gibsons including vintage - and 5 Heritage guitars - the Heritage are every bit as good and are so reasonably priced. I bought a killer flame top mid - 90s H 150 Limited a few years ago for $750 used with hard case. What a steal. And it had sat on Craigslist awhile with no other offers (I ended up trading that for a H 535 to try something different). I had a mid - 90s Gibson Les Paul right before that was not balanced right and had ceramic pickups - what a piece of junk.
Tim
Bought my H-150CMVSB from GC used. They wanted $1100.00. I negotiated for $900.00 (with case). It needed some polish and a new pickup ring. I took care of both and will probably own it 'til the day I die. PS: I also own a LP and love it, BUT, my 150is my gem.
Blunote
My 1990 ASB has Burstbucker Pros loaded. How do like them H. I think those are the ones I got em from BobN, later traded to DB, who then sold them to you.

I think those are the ones I got em from BobN, later traded to DB, who then sold them to you.I like the bridge a lot but the neck still isn't quite there for me. I got spoiled by an HRW neck a while ago I've got an Alnico 3 magnet coming in the next day or so and I'm going to swap it into the neck BB Pro - I think that might get me nearer to the noise I want. rockabilly69
Here's my H150's... As for pickups... Throbaks are great, have played many SLE101's, but the closest I've found yet have been Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Peter Green pickups without the reversed magnet option. To be honest though the best neck pickup I've heard has been a Throbak SLE101, the best bridge pickup has been my Peter Green SD! Here's my Peter Green pickups in one of my H150s... http://soundcloud.com/daniel-weldon-1/peter-green-pickups-in-h150 guitar was straight into a 18 watt Marshall variant and a 2x12 cab. Awesome playing! Definitely sounds like a 59 through a Marshall. I would be interested to hear that configuration through a Fender amp as that is what I play. I spoke to Dave at Stephens Designs and the wit time for a set of his PAFs is 50 weeks, I don't think I can wait that long lol.

Forgot to ask, do you have the Throbak neck and the PG in the same guitar? If so how does that sound? There are so many options, the more you research the more you get sucked in and the less you are sure about lol.
rockabilly69
Nope, it's the Peter Green set (with unreversed magnet), but I am particulary fond of throbaks in the neck position:)
MrPoobah
Ok Nope, it's the Peter Green set (with unreversed magnet), but I am particulary fond of throbaks in the neck position: I realized that after re-reading your previous post. Thanks for the reply though! I think I have it narrowed down to Throbak SLE 101 MXVs or a set of JM Rolph's...
rockabilly69
I don't think you can go wrong with any of those choices, but for me, the most PAF like is the Seymour Duncan Peter Green set, and I'm typically not a Seymour Duncan fan. I've heard them head to head against the MXV's and to me they slightly edged the Throbaks. When I first heard them they took me by surprise as I heard this clip of them here... I can see what you mean, was a little taken aback myself. They do sound pretty sweet. Is the unreversed magnet an option or was that done after you bought them? rockabilly69
I ordered non reversed, that was no problem. I also ordered double whites under the covers which I'm going to take off shortly:) They cost $300 shipped and took just a few weeks to get to me:) That was a Blackfaced Princeton on that clip! But as you heard on my clip they sound great with Marshall style amps too!
