Jamesian21
my 535's serial dates to 1987 and I was trying to look up when the first year the 535 was produced but the best I came across was a single article stating that it started in '87 Can anyone here confirm or deny this? skydog52
I believe you are right about 1987. Everything I've read and heard that was the first year for the H-535.

DetroitBlues
One cool thing about those 535's was the matching wood pickguards. When new owners took over, that went away. Thus my plastic 535 was never installed. Congratulations!
Gitfiddler
Another unique feature of 535's is the solid (not laminate) rims. Plus they put the input jack on the rim, vs. in the top. I've always hated the location of 335 input jacks. The founders must have had a reason for these changes/upgrades, and put them into effect right from the beginning of production back in the day. I tend to prefer the thinner body on the 535 as well, though the 335 body depth never bothered me
