Have Any Of You Checked Out the Lollar-loaded Soapbar loaded H-150's?

Lately I've been really fascinated with those Lollar loaded H-150's at Wolfe Guitars.

Have any of you guys played one or own one?

Please tell me how absolutely horrible they are so I can cease this latest GAS-driven obsession.

Gitfiddler:

I can't offer you any first-hand experience to absolve you from your obsession, but I can tell you that you have a fellow traveler.  As I've mentioned on a couple of posts --about X-mas dreams, about 50s LPs-- I'm really intrigued by the possibilities of a 150 with lollars.  Since I was a teenager, though I've owned a bunch of guitars, I've nearly always gigged with two electrics --a strat and a '335 style guitar with buckers, now my 535.  It just seems like a 150 with P-90s would fill out the palette very nicely ... and I really am at a point where I try not to buy guitars that are going to largely replicate tones I already have covered.

The other thing that keeps me looking at this guitar is that I KNOW I can't afford this year the other guitars that are missing from my accumulation, like a full hollowbody with p-90s.  Compared to a custom ordered 575 or even a 525, the 150 is a relative bargain ... right?  (This probably isn't helping with your GAS ... unfortunately, the better half is a tougher audience.)

So, I'm fighting the GAS with my personal year-long moratorium (but that was before the economy-boosting rebate was in the offing...), and with the facts that a) I rarely get to gig; B) when I do, I'm not sure I really want to hassle with a 3 electric guitar rotation (I already double on bass, and I have to bring an acoustic 12-string because we have a vocalist who kills J. Mitchell's "Carey"--such a great tune it almost justifies the hassle).  The 150 isn't going to bump the strat or the 535, and there's only so much room in my truck, and life in my back.

HOWEVER, if current discussions pan out about reconfiguring our band to create a smaller variant of those of us who want to gig more, and if the new song list includes some candidates for P-90s, I'm betting the dam is gonna bust.

So, 150/lollar owners, we need some testimony  ...can we get a witness? (as the Soul Brothers Six put it).

where is Wolfe guitars located?

Brent, Ya gotta be kiddin' me!  Jupiter, of course.

Everyone knows Wolfe's Guitars is on, I mean IN Jupiter...Florida.  Once you start gazing at their incredible inventory of Heritages and other guitar goodies, your G.A.S. will increase exponentially.  You'll need a truckload of TUMS or ROLAIDS to even start to mitigate it...and that hasn't worked for me yet.  Here is Wolfe's URL:

H-150 Goldtop...Mmmmmmmmmmm!! :P

You are doing a really great job there convincing yourself to not buy that guitar.  :D

Your powers of self control and rationale are quite extraordinary.  ;D

I must confess that I too have been GASsing lately for a P-90 equipped Heritage.

Jay even has a lefty goldtop 150 with Lollars on his site, thankfully I'm not that hot on goldtops.

A nice chestnut or sunset burst would really hit the spot .... ( It is tempting though  :-[)

Being a lefty I've never come across any guitar equipped with 90s, I actually emailed Jay about a week ago about a 137 loaded with Lollars, I haven't received a response yet, I know he's been busy lately.

To further deter you from acquiring a P90 guitar I post these links ( for educational purposes only)

A triple P90 equipped H535 version of the second model would be awesome .

If an Eastwood can get those tones then a Heritage would be absolutely WOW !!!

brentrocks:-

They're just promotional clips on Youtube by Eastwood guitars, nicely done though.

I've been trying to check out the tone of P90s, as I said earlier I've never played any  :-[ , and Youtube is great for that.

Just do a search for "guitar p90" and you'll get the idea.

I think they should have a special category on this forum called "Support Group". We can all act as everyone else's "virtual" sponsor, just like a 12 step program.

As a man who has been "sober" from buying guitars for over 6 month's I just have to say Gitfiddler, stay strong. You have a beautiful H-575 that you will be hurting very much by further neglect if you start "seeing" another guitar. And don't forget about the H-555 that will need your attention too.

They have been there for you. Now it's time for you to be there for them.

I played the H-137 with the P-90 for the first time in a few weeks.  It kicked my butt.  That thing is as strong as a donkey!  No finesse - just raw grinding sound.

Soon to be in my posession:

It's currently on layaway.

Looks like Thundersteel is "off the wagon"!! ;D

NO seriously, THAT is a beauty. Never seen that finish before. Would definately be my pick for my next H-150. Although, I am going to make sure I find one that weighs less than my current H-150 that I have nicknamed the "Iron Maiden" due to it's weight and torturous affect on my back.

Obviously Jay Wolfe has the "pick of the litter" on Heritage guitars. They always seem to provide the most outstanding examples of Guitars from the Heritage line.

Thundersteel~  THAT, my friend, is my favorite of all Jay's H150 Soapbars!  I'm glad you scored it.  We'll look forward to your review after you take ownership.  Great score!

Jay Wolfe has a laway plan?!  Hmmmmm.  Where is my G.A.S. Support Group Sponsor?!

T-steel:

I'd identified that one weeks ago as Righteous!  In fact, when I first saw this thread, that guitar was the one that came immediately to mind.  Jay's G-Base site is my favorite guitar porn hangout.  Well done, my friend; I'm green with envy on this one!!!!     8)

That H150 is so beautiful - it would be nice to here a soundclip where the sound of the P90's could be heard :-)

I agree with brentrock - a customised H140 with those specs would add a new dimension to every one's collection (that of course, if you don't already have a species with the P90's).  Tell us more, if you get closer to realisng the project.

Here's mine.

i saw that one on ebay, yes?  and if i remember right, it was a heck of a deal?

I believe it was on Ebay previously. I saw it recently on the Hamer Fan Club forum. I made the seller an offer, but it looks like John snagged it. Congratulations John!

Jay Wolfe has a laway plan?!

Yes, he does! Very reasonable as well. I've already got several more H150s in mind, but I don't know if I can justify them to the wife, especially since I'm playing bass with my band (though, they are using me as the guitar player as well on some songs!)
