I've never personally relic'd a guitar (or re-licked one). But some of the best Telecaster tones I've ever heard came from a Nachocaster which is a heavy duty relic'd guitar. This one... I think the one I played cost $6000. And up to the that point, I would've never ever considered spending that much on any guitar, modern or vintage. The most I've ever spent is $4500. But that guitar had me rethinking that. It was that good. And the idea that I would never have to worry about nicking it or even denting which would kill the value on many of my pristine guitars was a good thought. These days this same guitar sells for $8000 and he sells them as fast as he makes them. Frankly I don't think I would like if the guy made me one that would look new. It just felt so good, and better than any vintage Tele that I've ever played (I've played a few). A few weeks before I played this one I had a 50's whiteguard Tele at my house and this Nacho smoked it! Here's the only song that I recorded with it, a song which came out of me with less than 20 minutes of me playing it. The pickups just sing and the vibration in the wood rattled my ribs...

Yes I was paraphrasing with that Hendrix comment. Lots of reasons people want old worn looking guitars. And why not? if it inspires you to play more, or enjoy using it, it's all good. Even if you hang it on a wall & never play it, it's art. Not my place to judge.

wow that is a really good idea!

BTW, I like the way you named it. It's good that you got it in before my trademark came through. You got to use it for free!

I'm so sorry to hear this. I looked at this and my first thought was the year he was born was the year I graduated from high school. Just not fair, way too young. RIP. -
Good question, Rich . . . my guess is that the Richcaster will sit at the outside with the 535 in the middle. I'll be able to tell my axes from a hole in the ground! 🤣
-
It's always fun to spend other people's money! 😁 I'm looking forward to the tone report. Will it sit midway between the 530 and 535?

I thought I was done chasing the full-hollow-with-humbuckers will o' the wisp. Then, the esteemed Talisman Rich posted in another thread that Wolftone makes HBs in P-90 size . . . Little wheels in little head turned . . . Found a 2023 530 in ebony at Dave's Guitar for $1750 and bought Wolftone Legends for it . . . Ebony is good color so I can tell my axes apart: 535 in OSB, 530 in red, and now RichCaster in ebony . . . Looking for good bankruptcy lawyer . . .

Yeah, it might look like real play wear, but my question is WHY? It's easy enough to beat up a guitar by playing the crap out of it and not being careful with it. Get rid of the nice stand and just lean it in the corner of the stucco wall, let it fall down a few times. Lay it on the ground when you're not playing it. Leave it in the trunk in the middle of winter, then bring it in the house to play it. Wear a big ol' pointy metal buckle and sling that guitar low. I don't need street cred to come from my guitar's wear and tear. Now, if you're actually trying to recreate a famous guitar, like SRV's #1 Strat, I can see that as a goal, like making a copy of the Mona Lisa. Good for a collector, or for someone who is doing a SRV based show, much like Beatles imitators. But to think that fake wear makes it sound like an old guitar is too much of a stretch for me.

Some relics look like real playwear. The finish cracking on every square inch and a few dings don't. This one is decent. Still I won't pay to have it done.
-
Nothing too serious, this time. Just a cracked fascia. I was focused on the road and when she jumped out, I slowed expecting her to continue on. It looked like she was trying her best to back-pedal so I ventured into the other side of the road. I wasn’t quite quick enough.

Are Artisan Aged guitars always Custom Core?
TalismanRich replied to eljay's topic in Heritage Guitars
I was looking at Wolfetone's website yesterday and it looks like they will make any of their humbuckers in P90 dogear setup. https://www.wolfetone.com/product/dachswolff/ -
Feels like an Old Friend (50 yrs) _____________________ New Friend ( 5 wks) Neither one has the finish worn off.
-
Nope and Custom Core are not always Artisan

How do I get a Heritage made from green oak? Contact Paul? Sounds like something grown only in South Lyon, Michigan!!!

I met a girl like that in Ipanema...aaahh. I think there was a saxophone playing in the background but I might be mistaken after all it was the 70s. -
I've never licked a guitar, so I couldn't imaging re-licking a guitar.

I don't think the Standard II is an entry level guitar. They are basically the same as a standard. The Ascents are more entry level. So I guess, you have the choice of the Standard C (.88 to 1.0") or the Standard II 60s (.84 to .92) neck. The biggest problem is that not everyone prefers a fat neck. If you make them all baseball bats, the there will be folks like me that won't be comfortable. But DetroitBlues will be ecstatic! Were they bolt on necks, you can have 2 or 3 profiles, and then someone could choose their favorite. That's not possible for a set neck. I remember early on when G&L had about 5 different neck profiles, and if you ordered a guitar, you just told them which style you wanted. I think they even offered different radius and nut widths. Keisel still allows you to choose thick or thin, and 5 different radius options.

OUCH! How bad was the damage? I've seen a few cars that had major damage... bumper, grill, hood, windshield, airbag.
-
Really? $150 for a Squire Strat, $2.59 for a can of Zippo lighter fluid, $.99 for a box of matches. PRESTO! It's like printing money! 🔥🔥

Golly. When I intersected with a local deer while on a 55mph road last Thursday it never occurred to me that I was increasing the value. I feel better.

I was getting into acoustic in a big way and playing very little electric when I sold you the prospect. I don't think I explored the nuances of the prospect thoroughly while I had it. -
