My new to me 2008 535 arrived today....quick set up( intonation will have to wait)...plays effortlessly very nice smooth neck...but those SD pups just are not for me.anyone know what I mean and could anyone out there recommend a good pup set for this beauty....I fancy more of a tone youd expect to get from an early 60's Gibson.

Is the serial No correct????

Heres a linky

Congrats - that's a really pretty cherry red semi and aptly named. You have SD59s now?... thought they'd be pretty close to an early 60s 335. I'm more of a fan of seth lovers than SD59s, but they're probably kinda close to one another. Throbaks are really good... eh, I'm likely not much help as seth lovers in a semi really do it for me.

I cant get the bass for want of a better word to sound right using the amp settings that I am used to and even taking down the mid & treble doesnt help,Ive put it through my Peavey blues & a Marshall 6101 on clean and both sound very bright....the crunch channel on the Marshall was fun for me but my neighbour almost suffered a seizure 30 minutes ago....bless him,how was I to know he was 10 feet from where my amp was positioned next to the doors that leads in to our back yard, with both doors wide open...KERRANG!!!!!

I have no knowledge whatsoever of Throbacks, not really a common name over here....best I get a Googling..

Thanks

Tony

I won't be much help on a pup suggestion either...

But that is a might sharp looking 535!

Looks like it's in excellent condition

Its led a sheltered life, bought it from an American(Californian) guy that lives over here,Im hoping on his next trip back he can find me a rather nice 157...UK pricing is prohibitive if buying new...you guys seem to get everything at half the UK cost when buying new...its crazy...BUT not as mental as Gibson pricing

Tino, that is very nice, it looks almost identical to mine. Mine had the original SD's changed out to Classic 57's and I am very pleased with the sound. The wiring harness was also changed out to a Mojotone.

I put a Sheptone Tribute set in my 535 (and in my Les Paul) and I love it. Maybe on the bright side a bit but I play with a Bogner Xtc wich tend to be on the dark side... Sounds great in my 1968 Princeton Reverb too!

Beautiful guitar! Hope you really enjoy it!

I have a set of Duncan APH-1 (Alnico 2 magnet) in my '76 335 (K-zoo made)and am really pleased with the tone. I play a lot of styles (none too good!)and they're very versitile.

That is a great looking guitar. Always like the red transluscent. I've been loving Seth Lovers lately.

Enjoy!
