The flame on that guitar actually resembles real flames, especially on lower bout on the side with the poker chip! I really like this one. Very nice guitar! FredZepp Posted May 21, 2014 Share Posted May 21, 2014 I'd guess that the tops with perfect straight flame would be western maple, also likely to have less mineral streaks etc.. I've read that pretty much all quilted tops are western maple. While I really like the streaks and irregular flame of eastern maple, either one can make for an extraordinary figured top.
