I like this flamey pic of my '88 H-150 (thanks to Brent for that Heritage ) ....

The flame on that guitar actually resembles real flames, especially on lower bout on the side with the poker chip! I really like this one. Very nice guitar!

These are obviously highly subjective judgments, but I believe this is as good a flame top as I've ever seen.

Thanks. If you look close. You can see that it was painted to look a little faded,where your arm hits :icon_pale:

I'd guess that the tops with perfect straight flame would be western maple, also likely to have less mineral streaks etc.. I've read that pretty much all quilted tops are western maple.

 

While I really like the streaks and irregular flame of eastern maple, either one can make for an extraordinary figured top.
