Everyone has there favorite, you have to find yours, sorry. A good starting point would be the OCD, Lovepedal-Kalamazoo, Lovepedal Eternity, Barber Direct Drive or LTD, there are about a billion others too, these I have some experience with and like. My next one will probably be a Kalamazoo when I buy another.

I know this is a matter of opinion, but I'm looking for suggestions. I saw the video Brent put up on the Roadkiller and was really impressed. I was also too late.

Thanks.

A couple questions before I answer...

1) Single coils, Humbuckers or both?

2) Amp set to clean or already on its own OD

3) What style of music do you play

4) Do you like your amps EQ/tonality or do you want to alter it with the overdriven tone?

5) What amps will you use it with (some pedals work better with Fender BF, some better with Fender Tweed and Some better with Marshall etc.)

Sorry for the questions, but I own many and I may be able to recommend one more appropriate for your needs after you answer these questions.

My favs, at the moment, are the Suhr Shiba drive and JHS Pedals Morning Glory. I've had others that were "all that" when I had them. So, maybe the best is the one I'm using when I need it.

-My original 1980s-something Tube Scream TS-9 (I think the reissues sound awful)

-Fulltone Fulldrive 2

Spent some time back in the 90s doing a shootout with:

1. Original TS-808

2. TS9 RI nodded to 808 specs

3. Klon Centaur

It was unanimous to all who were there - the nodded TS9 sounded best.

Maybe the below would help in your quest (if you haven't already seen it). 35 pedals in the vid so if you're familiar with one or 2 of them, can be used as a reference point to others that you may be interested in.

What's the best overdrive pedal?

Answer: The last one you bought. In my case, that would be the CMATMODS Super Sigma Drive. There's ablsolutely none better...until I buy it.

If ever you want to know what the best amp, strat or LP is, I've got answers for those too. :icon_tongue:

Just some OD's I've owned through the years (in no particular order):

Menatone Blue Collar

Menatone King of the Britons

Menatone Howie

Menatone Top Boost in a Can

Fulltone Fulldrive II - I think I've owned every variation made

Fulltone OCD

Fulltone Plimsoul

Fulltone Distortion Pro (ok a distortion, not OD)

BJF Baby Blue OD - why or why did I let this go?

BJF Dyna Red

Stamps Drive-O-Matic

Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive

Paul Cochrane TIm

Paul Cocharne Timmy

Klon Centaur

Matchless Hot Box

SIB! Varidrive

Radial Classic

Radial Hot British

Z-Vex Box of Rock

Lovepedal Eternity - three different variations - my original burst is the best

Lovepedal AMP 11

Lovepedal Les Luis

Clark Gainster

Ibanes TS9 modded to 8089 specs

Boss Blues Driver

Hot Chili Tubester

Bixonic Expandora

Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret

Catalinbread C30

MJM Blues Devil

Surh Riot

MI Audio Crunch Box

MI Audio Tube Zone

Bear Foot Honey Bee

Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde

Revered Drive Train

At least another dozen (probably two) that I can't remember right now.

Trust me, there is no best overdrive. It depends on what you want, how you use it, what guitar/amp you are using it with, how your guitar/amp are set, are you stacking it or using it standalone, etc., etc., etc. There is no one best overdrive.

I have the new Boss combo drive and I really like it. It emulates british od tones like VOX etc. Well priced too at under $100.

I have great things about the Suhr Shiba. The clips sound great as well.

Is it an overdrive or a higher gain distortion pedal?
