blackface circuit with EL34's...sound interesting?

I know, I know.."shut up about those damned Traynor amps!!" heh

but check this out...I was over at the LPF and a fellow posted an article/review of a vintage Traynor YRM-1

a friend I used to jam with had one, I can attest it sounded great with a Les Paul...makes sense now that I read this:

"

about the YRM-1 circuit : the front end is basically a single channel black-face
reverb circuit, same reverb recovery mixing strategy with a 1Meg/100k
ratio in the Traynor instead of the 3.3Meg/220k ratio of the '63 Fender
Blackface reverb channel ... the output stage has a black-face
phase-driver circuit driving a duet of EL34's ... the amp is plate
coupled front to back - no cathode followers; so, very much a Blackface
amp running on EL34'"

just a headsup for any tone hounds looking for killer vintage gear on the cheap

I'm planning to build my Vibrolux Reverb so it can run EL34s as well as the usual 6L6s.

My Patriot was set up so that it can run EL34s or 6L6s. I have a set of EL34s on the shelf, just never plugged them in. Its just that the darn thing sounds so good with the 6L6s.

Interesting - does it have a solid state rectifier?

Another Patriot owner here. No, it has a tube recitifier. More magic from Paul Cochrane.

Thanks :) EL34s have a higher draw for the heater filaments than 6L6s, I wondered whether the PT tap for the rectifier tube heater was being used...
