5E3 Circuit

Many years ago, there was a time in which Mr. Tweed himself, KBP810 built numerous Fender models.  Many were all over the 5F1 (Champ), 5E3 (Deluxe), and the most popular AA763 (Deluxe Reverb).  A few Bassmans and Dumble clones are out there.

I had a really cool 40w version of a Princeton, but due to my personal situation last year, I was forced to sell.  Looking back, it was highly unnecessary.  I could use that amp today.

So, I have been looking into a 5E3 amp.  Found a kit for $200 (no transformer or tubes) but I think I have ability to make one with minimal investment.  I've been pondering it more and more, but still uncertain.

5E3 amps are great, one of my favorites, I've always liked the Fender tweed amps the best. When they grind they are glorious, But be aware for stage use they  don't have a lot of clean headroom, and if your drummer is a hard hitter a 5E3 may not have enough clean tone on tap.

Shundog and I put orders for our KPB tweed deluxe amps within days of each other. His was built first followed by mine. I still have mine, it’s amazing

I have a Fender 57 Custom Deluxe (Head-Cab) that sounds and responds like no other amp I've ever played through.

The secret is in jumpering the inputs and using the guitar volume controls to bring out the magic in these old school 5e3 tweed rigs.

I find that secret works with most amps.  Once I learned it, I never looked back.  I’m thrilled to hear the pros use the same technique.  Or, in simpler terms, harrumph!
