Wow, Will, you have a whole host of amps... Nice vintage vibe stuff too. All perfect for the blues!

Slammer! Niiiiice!

Thanks DB and Mavguy! I don't have anything vintage to show like lots of other folks here have. But the stuff I have does it for me, and trust me, I am all amped out! If EVER I was or could buy another amp, it would be another KBP model. But that is off in the distant future. I have all my bases covered with what I have. The sad part is, I don't need all these amps, but if I sold some, I might only get 40 cents on the dollar if that, if I tried to sell them, so might as well keep em.

GeeHausaFats, Will. Thought you were a drummer! That's a super nice amp collection.

Drum collection is a whole 'nother story Randy! We don't want to go there!

I haven't Tim, but I could. They look identical but one is a 1x12 and the other a 2x12. The first one I bought from Joes Music in Detroit for $650 (nos) then I ended up buying a Gibson 137 and the other GA40 with 2x12 in it as a set. I sold the guitar and after the proceeds, I only had $300 in the second amp!

On a quiet night i'm pretty sure I heard Alicia wailing. Sounded like Clapton.

Alicia, If you had to pick ONE AMP, Could you do it?

That IS the question. So is 'if you could only have one of the guitars which one would it be'. Too hard to answer. I love them all, each one uniquely.

I'd like to buy a vowel :) and spin again...

hey bobmeyrick, how does that sundown amp sound? I've never seen one in real life...they were built by Dennis Kagar who worked with Ken Fischer during his Ampeg days

Hi bolero, I haven't had the chance to use it in a gigging context, but I've been able to turn it up when the neighbours are out and the first thing to say is it's a loud little beast! There are two inputs - input 1 has a higher sensitivity and I find I tend to use the less sensitive input 2. Using input 2, the green channel stays clean (but not at all sterile) up to about "3", with progressively more grit as you turn it up. By the time you get to "10" you've got a good crunch/light overdrive. Though there are only two tone controls, bass and treble, there's enough variation available.

The red channel has bass, middle and treble controls, and plenty of gain! I tend to set the gain on around "3" and the master on "3" at home. Even at these comparatively low settings I can get good sustain. Turn up the gain a little and there's some nice controllable feedback available. Turn it up to "10" and it'll sustain for months! The gain control also has a pull-boost function. There are two other very useful controls - "RMS" which varies the power (I'd guess from about 15W to about 50W), and "Governor" which limits the power on the red channel, and if pulled out it works on the green channel too, so it's a sort of overall master volume. there's also presence and reverb controls on the back panel.

There's not a great deal of information about Sundown amps out there, apart from some reviews on Harmony Central and chat on TGP. Some people have quite negative opinions about Sundown amps, though I can't see why - maybe they either haven't used them and are just repeating what they've read, or didn't get the sound they wanted straight away. I'm happy with it - it's versatile and only slightly bigger than a Fender Blues Junior (but a lot heavier and louder!). I also like things that are a little out of the mainstream, which is why I have three Heritage guitars...

that's great info, thanks!!

I recognized it in the pic, after reading about them in Bill Moore's Ampeg book...which is a great read & history of Ampegs.

I think Sting used them for a while too, for guitar during "dream of the blue turtles" era. but I could be wrong

cheers

OK, so, I'm off to see the wizard tomorrow --my annual or bi-annual trip to the amp tech, a 3.5 hour drive each way for me. Since I have stuff at home for the summer(or that needs work) that usually stays at work, and I've been cleaning stuff up and doing some speaker swaps today, decided I would line it all up and take some pics.
