Amp porn-let's see what you have!

Marshall MG100HDFX Solid state 100W head sitting on a 4x12" MG series "B" cabinet. It has a clean channel with a classic crunch button. The other channel is the overdrive channel with a hard core death metal button if you need to go to 11.

The VOX Valvetronix 100W head I just bought this weekend because I want to start my exploration of tube amps to see what all the fuss is all about. This amp is a hybrid with only one tube to replace and the rest is solid state. This amp has every other VOX amp modeled into it so I can go to any voice I want through a single dial. Different sound effects too. Still learning what it can do.

Obviously with only one cabinet I have to choose which head I want to use and the Marshall 4x12 cabinet works great for either.

you are right!

what does it sound like? tube or ss?

She's all tube.... I bought her back in 84 and she was fairly rough and ended up retiring to the back of the shed when I bought a Fender deluxe 85 a few years later. Eventually ... about 2001 I decided to get her rebuilt.. it was then discovered that we had an 8 ohm head and a 4 ohm box?? anyway after replacing all the tubes and the speakers (one was blown. replaced with Eminence Legends) She now works all purty like. FiSonic were an australian company that built amps from about 1962 to 1979? before being bought out and disolved. they were mostly hand built copies of various fender models of the time.... nice amps

I think K meant Alicia's real 1954 goldtop, which is one of 3 confirmed to exist. There's a rumor of a 4th, but I have never found any evidence of it.

Macca's Les Paul is a 1960, and there are 2 others known from 1960.

The only known 1959 Les Paul is currently owner by John McEnroe. It was/is on the market; and Alicia had the chance to play it for a few minutes. It is well out of our reach; IIRC it was being offered at 1/2 million US.

Well, Shut My Mouth! Sorry to doubt you, Katy, I just had never heard of any lefty guitars from that era. Like I said, I've been wrong before... I'm SURE I'll be wrong again, probably in the near future!

John McEnroe owns a 59 Lefty Les Paul?! Talk about a "Fault!" I'm sure he "Love"s it.... Sorry.

Funny. A tennis player with a million dollar guitar. That sucks.

The blonde is indeed a 1962 Bassman. The other amp is a "Soundtronics", made by a small Chicago company. the cab is a kicker cab for a subwoofer I found, and loaded with "Bag End" speakers. Sadly, it gave up the ghost; and since it's an oddball without a schematic it's relegated to the closet.

If you ever want someone to take a peek and see if they can breath some life back into her let me know, I'd be happy to take a look at it.

No pro reverbs?

I sold my '66 Pro Reverb like an idiot, when I was a kid. I loved that little tone monster!

Hey, isn't there a member here with a Two Rock stack? Now that is some amp porn that I'd love to see again.

is that the Nighthawk 10? been wanting to try one. if you know, how does it compare to the stealth 10 (the one i have)?

Beat's me...I have only heard the Nighthawk. I can use the ER aspects when playing my acoustic. I also think that its a bit smaller.

Yeah. SInce you can't really get a new one, I'd love to have a Pro clone. Of course, there are several clones I'd like, but the Pro just has this WONDERFUL tone to my ears. Especially through the 15. I mean... WOW.

IIRC that would be pegleg. He has other nice amps as well.

Ive just taken a big hit in the gas stakes over fender amps and 40w seems to be the best fit. Chances of getting near one at a reasonable price(to me) seem unlikely

Doh!! Howard beat me to it

Would that be a Super Reverb? I am going to post a photo of mine in just a short bit.

tbh that is in there and more easily achievable.

The difference being 212 v 410and a slightly different circuit.

It was while setting up my amps to photograph them that I realised things might have got out of hand...

The pictures are -

1. Ceriatone OTS, C-Lator, Peavey Valverb, Blackstar 1x12 cab with Celestion G12-65. On top of that is the AER Compact 60.

2. Fender Blues Junior, Mesa Maverick 1x12.

3. Session "Sessionette 75", Seymour Duncan Convertible 2000.

4. Roland Cube 30, Sundown A36.

5. 5W kit from Aston Electronics (http://www.astonelec...kits.html#vk5mv) in a rather basic home-built cabinet, on a 1x12 cab from eBay!

The Ceriatone set up is my preferred gigging option, with the Maverick a close second and the one I'd use if space was limited.

The Sessionette is a solid state amp which was popular in the 1980s - I believe they were sold in the States under the name "Steward" as Peavey already had the "Session" name.

The Seymour Duncan is an interesting amp, which had features which were ahead of its time - the interchangeable preamp modules, the variable power control, a pentode/triode switch and variable damping on the speaker.

The 5W kit was fun to build and sounds good - if you can use a soldering iron and can read a schematic I'd recommend having a go a building your own amp.
