Snagged the Blue 150 from CL

Took an after work road trip out towards the west side of the state to check out that Blue H150... boy am I ever glad I did! (in other words... yep, she followed me home ;) )

Some minor finish wear, really nothing that some virtuoso and a little elbow grease shouldn't be able to handle, but otherwise it is in really good shape! (oh and a cracked pup ring... that will be rectified shortly)

Nickle hardware, lightly worn; Blue maple top, some nice flame going on but the blue finish sometimes makes it appear to lean towards the tamer side (until it hits the light just right anyways); natrual finished mahogony back; a little more flame in the back of the neck (I really dig the neck!); neck feels like a medium, a little chunky but not overly fat, feels very comfortable to my hands; and oh yeah... ebony fretboard which looks great against the blue!

V Serial which puts it at a 2005

Has nice low action, some fret wear but nothing major. Owner says it has Seth 55's in it, the strings still seem fairly fresh so I'm going to hold off on pulling them out to confirm for now; but the tone is certainly indicative of a lower output PAF style pup, which is what the Seth 55's are intended to be; I usually tend to favor a slightly hotter pup, but gotta admit these sounded damn good through the tweed's! (Champ and Deluxe).

Didn't notice any extra holes in the top (re: the pickgaurd), so it seems as though it did indeed leave the factory with this one installed (or perhaps left without any PG, and it was installed later?)

Well enough talk... here's a lil bit of some good ol' porn:

Sweet swinging monkeys! That guitar is gorgeous!!! Love that blue with the natural mahogany. The neck is just frosting on the cake. He shoots, he scores! It's too bad you don't live in SE MI; I'd really like to see that one with my own eyes :good_mini:

Yeah I know! Instead I am stuck living in se MI... maybe someday soon I'll be over to make it down to SE MI - not sure how far of a drive it is from se to SE though? I can only imagine it's somewhere in the 10-15 minute drive time range :o

Thats cool man...was i right about the price? i was thinking he would come down $150 or so.

Yes indeed, went $100 less... though after seeing it in person I actually felt a little guilty for haggling over the phone, lol (though the listing did say obo!).

Congratulations, Brian! That looks like a great catch. An H-150 is definitely on my short list (unless this recent acquisition means you are ready to part with your H-140?!) Lemme know...

Well as much as I loved that 140, Detroit Blues finally broke me down and acquired it from me yesterday

While I'm still suffereing from an extreme case of sellers remorse, I know it went to a great guy who was in dire need of a great guitar. (that and finally had to make an honest HOC member outta him!)

I'm thinking that top might be a lighter shade of blue than those in the pictures. I know the blue stains, like the reds, are harder to capture exactly in photos and can vary with the camera/lighting. The blues for some reason tend to shift towards a cobalt hue when taken with artificially lighting and may actually be lighter. Would it be possible to take some pics in natural light?

These blues are the same guitar but different cameras with the second one being closer to the actual hue.

I found myself always going back the CL page and lusting for your guitar.

Oh BTW, dibs if they haven't been called

I know what you mean on the Blue; I've seen the Blue H150 RPL231 acquired from MartyGrass in person and it looked very close to your second picture - this one does seem to be more of a "Blue-Blue"

Here it is in natural light, and does look fairly close to it's true hue:

OK, so I just shot this one in natural light. Your's is first, mine second. One of the things that happens with the dye is the shift that takes place due to the color of the wood being dyed. Whiter maple is true blue and yellowish maple shifts slightly towards turquoise a bit. Also aging of the finish will shift it as it yellows.
