Heritage P90s

So I pulled out my trusty H-137 and as usual was blown away by how cool it sounds and plays.....just the right amount of twang and grit coming from the P90s. What did Heritage use for the stock pickups?

Mine has an AA SN# which would put it around 2012? Did they use different pickups over the years? Like any great P90 they have a bit of hum but the sound is really cool.....real similar to my 58 LP JR P90 for sure!

All the original P90 Heritages that I'm aware of have Jason Lollar pickups.   Unless it was a custom order, or the pickups were changed,  those would likely be the stock ones.   The control cover may even say the pickups.   Check there.

I noticed that they have a really nice compression to them. I have a C&W gig tomorrow night and will use the H-137. It's a great guitar for grit but it can sound almost Tele like when used with a twin or deluxe.

Typically (but not always!) the pickups installed are identified on the label.  However this does inspire me to pull out my H137 tonight too.  It's been neglected as of late.

Yep, my 137 has a rippin' Lollar in it.

I'm pretty sure they're Lollars. I've had mixed luck with Lollar P90s as the first few sets I encountered in two different Reverend guitars, were kind of sterile sounding, but the guitar that Kuz sold me (H535 P90) has a great set of Lollar dogear P90s, I love them. I guess it's luck of the draw.

A demo of that guitar plugged straight into my Mesa Fillmore 50...

It's all subjective and what your ears personally want to hear but I've had better luck with other P90s. Lollars wouldn't even be in my top 5, but to be fair I think we all play through different amplifiers and that makes a hugh difference. In the video they sound great, much different than what they sounded like in my Special that was just like the one in the video.

I have never played Sanford Magnetics P90s, but these sound pretty great at the end of this video...

Of the ones that I've owned and liked/loved, I've had GREAT luck with Wolfetone P90s, they are probably my favorite. Throbak makes killer P90s. Another shout out to SHED pickups, his P90s slay! Tyson Tone winds some great P90s! And for raunch, stock Gibson P90s are right up there!

Absolutely. Everyone's ears are different. But mine say nothing touches Lollars.

I too have never been terribly impressed with the stock Lollar P90s’. I do like his 50s’ wind. I give a big nod to the Wolfetone “Mean” P90.
