Back in December 2010, when I bought the 150 Special goldtop in a sale at Fuzz Music in Nottingham, the shop also had a 150 CM in Trans Black. Both were "new old stock". The other day I popped in to the "parent shop" (Guitar Base) on a completely unrelated matter, but asked if they still had the 150 CM. They did - it hadn't been sold and had been stored since then. The store owner (Colin) asked if I might be interested, and like a fool I said yes. He told me to come back today when they'd had a chance to give it a clean and set up.

I went along and they'd done exactly that, including replacing the original Grover machine heads (which were looking a bit tired) with a new set. Schaller hardware and pickups, standard stuff. I spent a good half hour playing the guitar and found it to be very nice. I asked what they would be prepared to sell it for. The answer was a very reasonable £799, so out came the credit card...

There are one or two little marks, but nothing serious. It's been a lovely sunny day, so when I got home I took some photos. One more thing - one of the staff (Andy) owns a 150 CM VSB, so I pointed him in the direction of the HOC.

As they said in Spinal Tap, "None more black!"

As an aside, I noticed in the latest issue of Guitarist magazine that High End Guitars in Nottingham has reduced prices on several NOS (2008 or thereabouts) Heritages.

They're still twice what you've just paid but a welcome piece of reality nonetheless! ;)

Looks like there is some cracking along the binding. Is that a trick of the light? I heard that was the reason that they stopped using black binding on guitars.

That is fantastic! I really like the look of the black binding too!

I would be interested in a guitar like that but I'd first like to know if there are any problems with black binding.

The binding's OK - it must be a trick of the light. It was a very sunny day and the guitar was very shiny! :laughing7:

Actually, now I look at the photos I see the grass needs cutting!

That's a beauty, congratulations

Thanks!

Looks like trans Black/Blue. I think it looks Rocken!
I think that's partly due to some reflection of the sky and partly due to overexposing by 0.7 stop to make the grain more visible. In the flesh, so to speak, it's decidedly black. Still Rocken though!

There's nothing foolish about that transaction. That's a rich look. Congratulations!
