FredZepp
Gibson smokestack to be dismantled, rebuilt as part of $12M renovation http://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo/index.ssf/2016/09/gibson_smokestack_to_be_disman.html Work was being done Thursday to prepare to deconstruct and preserve the smokestack, which has been the most talked about part of the iconic guitar factory at 225 Parsons St. on Kalamazoo's North Side. Rex Bell on claiming our guitar heritage Workers were securing and positioning scaffolding around the 70-foot brick smokestack, putting metal bands around the stack to secure its bricks. "As part of the initial phase of redevelopment of 225 Parson St., PlazaCorp Realty Advisors announces it is undergoing deconstruction of the existing smoke stack to secure the bricks and for safety purposes," project developer PlazaCorp stated in a Thursday-afternoon press release. "The current condition of the smokestack has become a safety issue as it continues to deteriorate and work is scheduled to begin on the buildings," PlazaCorp wrote in a statement provided by Andy Wenzel, director of acquisitions and development for PlazaCorp. "Very soon, there will be a campaign released whereby contributions will be accepted into a fund specifically for the preservation and reconstruction of the smoke stack. In the meantime, the bricks will be secured, palletized and stored."

rwinking
There is something ironic about Heritage being the recipient of all of this great press at the expense of a company that sold out to a multinational corporation and is now owned by an idiot who will get nothing from this. Proof positive of the existence of Karma or God or one of those spiritual concepts.
Jim W
"Very soon, there will be a campaign released whereby contributions will be accepted into a fund specifically for the preservation and reconstruction of the smoke stack. In the meantime, the bricks will be secured, palletized and stored." So, there's no real reason to believe it will happen anytime soon. I wonder how much they need to raise for the fund; and is this outside of the 12 million project's scope?
